George Bush: Diagnosis of Personality Disorder: PSYCHOPATH
Edited on Mon Jan-22-07 02:18 PM by orleans
i was watching the documentary "the corporation" and in it they were saying that if a corporation was a real person it would be diagnosed as a "psychopath" because it would meet the criteria for such a personality disorder.

as the tv screen showed the following i realized that those personality traits could be attributed to george as well (however, i'm not so sure about the second one that is listed). the "proper" term for this mental illness--i believe--is "antisocial personality disorder" (however their website states: "Individuals with this disorder are sometimes called psychopaths or sociopaths." http://psyweb.com/Mdisord/jsp/anpd.jsp#dc )

so this is what the corporation documentary showed:

"personality diagnostic checklist
world health organization icd-10
manual of mental disorders dsm-iv

* callous unconcern for the feelings of others
* incapacity to maintain enduring relationships
* reckless disregard for the safety of others
* deceitfulness: repeated lying and conning others for profit
* incapacity to experience guilt
* failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviours

subject: the corporation
diagnosis of personality disorder: psychopath"

when i saw this i thought it most certainly applies to bush as well.

now...doesn't that make us all feel much better?

"Diagnostic Criteria ( DSM-IV™ ) made easy.

1. Since the age of fifteen there has been a disregard for and violation of the right's of others, those right's considered normal by the local culture, as indicated by at least three of the following:

A. Repeated acts that could lead to arrest.

B. Conning for pleasure or profit, repeated lying, or the use of aliases.

C. Failure to plan ahead or being impulsive.

D. Repeated assaults on others.

E. Reckless when it comes to their or others safety.

F. Poor work behavior or failure to honor financial obligations.

G. Rationalizing the pain they inflict on others.

2. At least eighteen years in age.

3. Evidence of a Conduct Disorder, with its onset before the age of fifteen.

4. Symptoms not due to another mental disorder."

i realize we can't be certain about #4 (such as Fetal alcohol syndrome for example) but i believe he meets all the criteria regardless

so when we watch his state of the union speech tomorrow we can watch it with this little added perspective. (ah yes, the psychopath...with his finger on the trigger. how reassuring...)

3. Question -- inability to maintain enduring relationships
He does not fit this criteria. He is married to the same woman for a long time. He has long-term friends, although they may be sycophant.

6. The question is, how many real friends does he have?
If he lost his fortune and political power, how many of his friends would stand by him? How many would just cut him loose, as a liability?

We cannot know

unless we make it happen!

4. The US.is being run by a "psychopath" and the americans go; "tee-hee"
Bush's actions reveal his problems and who he is and no-one is taking notice

* reckless disregard for the safety of others
* deceitfulness: repeated lying and conning others for profit
* incapacity to experience guilt
* failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors

As Bush often reminds us, I'm the president , I'm the decider... Over 660,000+ Iraqi's killed, 25,000 US. troops killed or maimed for wmd's!!

19. Yep. Surrounded by strong sociopathic influences.
As a narcissist who gets much of his 'supply' from sociopaths like Cheney, he'll emulate their behavior.

7. Bush on the Couch?
Has anyone here read Bush on the Couch by Dr. Justin A. Frank? Very interesting...and very, very scary. :scared: I read it over winter break, and it's definitely worth a look, IMO.

10. Thanks!
:) Thanks for the welcome, CrazyOrangeCat (I have one of those at home - your name isn't Phoenix by any chance, is it? LOL)! ;) I found that it was very difficult to read a lot of that book at a time, because after reading about fifty pages I would get severely freaked out, and then take a break and come back to it later. I would still recommend it though - it may not be pleasant, but I think it's something we should all be aware of.

But I'm making up for it . . .

11. Cheers
:) Thanks for the welcome. I would've done quite a bit of highlighting and underlining myself, except I'm cheap and just checked it out of the library instead of actually buying it. ;) (Hooray for being a broke college student!)

12. This is an indication that our society is mentally ill as well. Consider this:
I used to look at the masses of people in other countries out in the streets with guns shouting slogans all mad as hell and it looked "crazy". NOW it looks completely sane. It's the people who turn a blind eye to this madness...go into their homes and turn on the TV and tune it all out. THAT is crazy. A profound realization for me.

17. As you stated "psychopath" is not a personality disorder
Additionally though, persons with antisocial personality disorder are not 'psychopaths'. This is really armchair psychology at its worst.

20. Keep in mind that outcomes in treating PDs are generally poor.
PDs aren't like depression or anxiety disorders where we have very effective treatments that work rapidly. I've heard some experts say that they believed that some of the PDs are not really treatable yet given the state of our current knowledge and research.

21. On the topic of psychology, I think he's using a shocking number of defense mechanisms as well..
Such as:

Denial- The refusal to accept reality and to act as if a painful event, thought or feeling did not exist. It is considered one of the most primitive of the defense mechanisms because it is characteristic of very early childhood development.

Displacement- The redirecting of thoughts feelings and impulses from an object that gives rise to anxiety to a safer, more acceptable one. Being angry at the boss and kicking the dog can be an example of displacement.
(He did drop Barney =\ haha)

Fantasy - When used as a defense mechanism, is the channeling of unacceptable or unattainable desires into imagination. This can protect ones self esteem as when educational, vocational or social expectations are not being met, one imagines success in these areas and wards off self condemnation.

Rationalization- A way of making something irrational sound rational. Or, the cognitive re-framing of ones perceptions to protect the ego in the face of changing realities. Thus, the promotion one wished fervently for and didn't get becomes "a dead end job for brown nosers and yes men".
