"Following is a letter that the FDA gives to biotech firms regarding approval of GMO.
“Based on safety and nutritional assessment you have conducted, it is our understanding that Monsanto has concluded that corn products derived from this new new variety are not materially diffferent in compostion, safety and other relevant parameters from corn currently on the market, and that GMO corn does not raise issues that would require premarket review or approval by the FDA… as you are aware it is Monsanto’s reponsibility to ensure that foods marketed by the firm are safe, wholesome and in compliance with all appplicable legal and regulatory requirements.”

.....Monsanto executive..... Phil Angell director of corporate communications.... “Monsanto should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food. Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible.”
Talk about circular reasoning Monsanto asserts its safety to the FDA, the FDA then approves it, and then Monsanto states it is not responsible because the FDA approved the product. This must be the parralel universe that I hear about.
An update on
Michael Taylor our new food czar, he oversaw the policy regarding bovine growth hormone, which has been banned in Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. He has a revovling door between Monsanto and the FDA, which means he serves two masters with conflicting ends.http://blogs.alternet.org/healthnut/2010/04/06/gmo-monsanto-update/
