oh sure....they've been to Italy, France, Turkey, Brazil, China, Africa ad nauseum....but they haven't EXPERIENCED very much.....

I mean, they've "seen the sites", but they haven't lived ANY OTHER life than a life of 'privilege'

2. Tom Friedman is a perfect example of this.
He jets around the world to various trade conferences where he stays in 4 star hotels and schmoozes with CEOs and heads of state. He thinks he's got "real world" cred because he talks to an occasional cab driver but in reality he doesn't know jack crap about the lives of 99.99% of the world's population. What I really hate about him is that some liberals fall for his crap.

3. I remember one millionaire's son at college.
He was telling us that his house had a lot of eggshells on the floor of the kitchen. I was confused, and asked him why. He told me, "Because we eat a lot of eggs". Maybe the hired help was away for awhile or something. He had no perception of the real world, only the world of his immediate family and their servants. Yet he had right-wing political opinions he blathered all day about.

4. Their life experience is limited.
They know how to play tennis, bridge and golf. They can swim.

But I went to school with some rich kids who had few survival skills. Some of the girls did not know how to wash dishes or make a bed.

I showed one girl how to open a can of tuna and make a tuna salad sandwich. Later, she called me and asked me, "What is brown meat?" I couldn't figure out what she was talking about. Finally, she told me that she was reading a recipe in a cookbook, and it said to 'brown meat.'

I explained to her how to brown the meat. Sheese.

5. Google "The Andrew Freedman Home" -- it was a halfway house for down-on-their-luck millionaires. . .
Edited on Sat Apr-10-10 01:54 AM by Journeyman
it kept many a rich man from having to rub shoulders with the hoi polloi . . .

On edit: Forgot to add, it was established by its benefactor because he had learned, through personal experience, that reduced circumstances are harder on the rich than on the poor, as the wealthy don't have near enough skills to fend for themselves sans cash.
