2. Stevens never considered himself a liberal.
Much the same as I tell people about me - the country has gone so far right those of us who were 'moderate' in the '70s are now flaming libs.

6. yes, we would be extremely fortunate to get someone as liberal, but
the trend has been for every replacement to be further to the right than their predecessor.
It's hard to imagine Obama doing differently.
