New Law Legalizes Home Delivery of Beer

The link to the law, snazzily titled MCL 436.1203, can be found here.

You will want to direct your attention to subhead 11. Essentially, it says that retailers with merchant licenses, brewpubs and microbreweries can deliver "beer and wine to the home...of a consumer..." if the following occurs:
a) the beer/wine is delivered by an employee of the (little e) establishment and not a third party;
b) the person making the delivery verifies that the person receiving the beer/wine is 21+
c) the employee making the delivery has gone through a server training program.

According to the March/April issue of the Michigan Beer Guide, no training programs have yet been approved by the Liquor Commission so for now, the Commission only requires subheads a & b.

I have to admit that I am rather enticed by the thought of calling one of my local breweries and having the beer show up like magic! You now can get your pizza, your Netflix and now beer delivered to the comfort of your own home! Heck, I might never leave the house again!!

5. Back in the seventies in California, we could get our pizza

delivery with a little ice bucket that had six little six oz bottles of beer packed into it. They were bottled especially for the pizza chain.They also tucked in some fudge brownies. I think it was a good idea because it kept people from driving after they had gone to the pizza and beer place. To this day I can't imagine eating pizza without a brew. It doesn't seem normal somehow because that is how I was introduced to it.

Also, back then, you could get deliveries from the liquor store, instead of going out and driving. I wonder what happened?

8. In San Diego, several local pizza places will deliver beer with the pizza, but you must first supply

the ID/DL of the person over 21. Tell them the ID/DL # over the phone and they'll type it in to verify it.

The person in the ID/DL supplied MUST be the person that receives/pays for the delivered items. So, no using daddy's DL and then letting 16 year old Bobby pay for it.

10. Beer used to be delivered

to your door in Wisconsin, just like the milkman did. That was in decades past and survived a long time in the smaller towns up north, like Wausau and Rhinelander.

You left your empty case on the porch and voila! a full case took its place when the beer truck made its rounds.

There have been times that I was without wheels, and while there is a neighborhood store within easy walking distance, their beer selection is horrible. Could have used a delivery service then. :beer:
