Don Blankenship: Investors, Politicians Begin Calling For Massey Head To Resign

The calls to oust Massey Energy Company Chairman and CEO Don Blankenship began in earnest Monday, with members of both the private and public sectors getting involved.

The CtW Investment Group sent a letter to Massey's board of directors Monday afternoon demanding Blankenship's resignation in the wake of the disastrous explosion at the company's Upper Big Branch Mine in West Virginia.

CtW had previously warned the board that its minimal oversight over Blankenship's regime exposed Massey and its shareholders to "unnecessary legal, regulatory, and reputational risks" -- apparently vindicated in that judgment, the investment group deems the Upper Big Branch disaster a "tragic consequence" of Blankenship's "confrontational approach to regulatory compliance."

2. Exactly why is Blankenship not considered a murderer?

This is well past reckless endangerment. This is also not simply stuff that went on without his knowledge. These deaths were caused by his actions. Illegal actions he took knowing that deaths would be caused. Is being in business an excuse that allows someone to set traps and kill random people?

Seriously how is this different from arson for profit?

Is being a sociopath and a mass murderer expected in business? Or does being in business mean that the willful violation of law causing the deaths of many is not a crime. Seems like we don't need in this case to regulate business, we just need to enforce laws. We also need to see exactly who aided and abetted murder and put them on trial for doing so. Enforcing laws is much simpler than regulations on business.

Did he make money as part of his pursuit of crime? Then it should all be forfeit. Just like in a drug case, take his car, house, everything until he is proven innocent of murder. Apparently running a mining company means you can kill people.

3. He's a tea-bagger and friend of Sean Hannity and a regular

critic of the 'left' with all the usual talking points. He's anti union, anti worker's rights and has attended and helped fund a tea-bagger rally. He's bought judges and politicians and threatened workers with losing their jobs if they refuse to go into a mine they believe is unsafe.

He has said that we 'need to accept that we live in a Capitalistic society where it is the survivor of the fittest'. He is everything that is wrong with this country, from literally wrapping himself in the flag to placing profits before lives. He is destroying the environment also and yes, I dont' know about murder but 'criminally negligent homicide' or at least manslaughter seems to be appropriate. Removing him from the industry would go a long way to help save lives and the environment in WV.
