Gay Indian professor found dead after students film him having sex

A gay professor at India's Aligarh Muslim University has been found dead after his students and a television crew broke into his home and filmed him having sex with a man.

police believe he may have committed suicide, although the results of a post mortem examination were inconclusive.

He was suspended from his job and asked to leave his college apartment after the sting, in which he was filmed having sex with a rickshaw puller.

The 62-year-old was reinstated after a high court revoked the university's decision.

The Indian Express reported it had spoken to Siras on Monday evening after the suspension was lifted.

"I want to go to America, I want to teach them Marathi. Not the literature, the language. America is the only place where I will be free to be gay, he was quoted as saying.

those who broke into his home and invaded his privacy should be charged. and they should have been the ones kicked out of the college.

see if everyone of their sexual adventures fits an exact mold of perfection and normality. And they should also be charged for crimes. And, as you say, "they should have been the ones kicked out of the college."

27. Where did you read that? Even though there are instances of

a person having to fire twice in a suicide, they're obviously quite rare. That makes me wonder if it was an actual murder rather than a suicide brought about by those assholes.

17. Something else bothers me about the story -

the professor's partner is identified as a ricksaw puller. A number of my colleagues are Indian and I have interesting, and sometimes disturbing, conversations with them regarding home. Just as certain words here are coded, like "welfare queens" for example, so too is "rickshaw puller". It implies that the professor's partner was from a lower caste. Indian society has problems with both homosexuality and relationships between individuals of differing castes. I wonder if Prof. Siras' students were upset both by the fact that he was homosexual and that he was having a relationship with a lower caste individual? That does not excuse their actions one iota of course and they and the tv crew should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

28. Actually, I've Had a Remarkably Easy Time Of It

I experienced the standard homophobia when I was in the Navy, but I wasn't out at the time, and was not really a target. I experienced a truly personal anti-homo event several years ago when I was told I was in the "wrong bar", and violence was implied if I didn't leave. But in general, I've had few personalized experiences with homophobia, largely due to three factors: 1) I'm a powerfully built, not overly flamboyant man, 2) I live and work in a liberal part of the United States, with friends and family who are all very supportive, and 3) I came out relatively late in life (mid-30's).

While I have little personal experience with in-your-face, one on one homophobia, my anger with America's treatment of her GLBT citizens is certainly based on personal experience: my rights are being denied every day. I am literally a second class citizen. That would be more than enough to enrage any civic-minded person. Add to that the constant stories of my brothers and sisters being beaten, fired, evicted, disinherited, vilified, ostracized, and murdered, and there's plenty of reason to be pissed at this country.

I have a sister who is one of the evil people who vilify gays. And a brother-in-law (married to a different sister) is the same way.

I've tried my very best to change their minds. Nothing has worked. I'm horrified and ashamed that members of my own family are like that. Until they started speaking out against GLBTs I had thought that reason and common decency would win over ignorance and hatred. Now I know differently and it frightens and sickens me.

In a curious twist to the controversy surrounding the death of a gay AMU professor, his cellphone has gone missing even as a case of criminal trespass has been lodged against six persons, including four senior AMU officials.

"We are trying to trace the missing cellphone," City Superintendent of Police Maan Singh Chauhan said.

The cellphone was said to be lying near the feet of Professor Srinivas Ramchander Siras on Wednesday when police broke open the door of his room which was locked from inside.

my friends in the LGBT community would say they are still not able to be free to be gay in America. This should not be a factor in this day and age. I'm have nothing but best wishes for the grieving family. And in other countries this is the norm for gay people to live in fear of being found out,their vary lives depend on it. You still have that type of thought hear in America.
