Group offers reward for whaling info
FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- A Friday Harbor, Wash., conservationist group is offering a cash reward for information leading to the location of Japanese whaling vessels.
The group, Sea Shepherd, says it will pay $25,000 for information leading to the Japanese boats, which are working to kill 850 Minke whales and 10 fin whales for what the country's government claims is scientific research, the BBC reported Tuesday.
Critics of Japan's annual whaling expeditions say the claim of scientific research is nothing more than an attempt to circumvent regulations that outlawed commercial whaling in the 1980s.

Three vessels filled with activists have joined a search for the whalers, with some saying they plan to ram the whaling vessels until they return to port and others saying they plan to get between the whalers and their prey in small boats.
