My letter to the editor regarding their tealaban coverage of this past Sunday
(props to WonderGrunion for some great lines I used in the letter)

In March of this year, tens of thousands of demonstrators filled 5 blocks in Washington D.C. protesting the need for immigration reform, but they received no substantial coverage in the main stream media. Over 73,000 attended Wrestlemania, NASCAR's Autoclub 500 had about 72,000 in attendance, yet 11 people, mostly senior citizens and all White, get front page exposure on the Sunday Ledger. Statistically, the Teaparty movement is comprised of financially secure older White überconservative Christians with ZERO tolerance for any other faith or people of color, the majority collecting Social Security and Medicare, their common ground being tax reduction and fervently anti-Obama/anti-Socialism.

They claim they are being overtaxed, yet they enjoy the benefits of taxation through Social Security, Medicare, public streets, conveyances, traffic lights, and benefiting from the presence of the police to protect them from perceived evil when they protest. Generally speaking, these people want to be supported by the public and not have to pay their fair share while dictating their version of Government for the rest of us to follow. Because of the novelty of a group of old White people speaking out, they get more than their share of press coverage by a complicit corporate media, while poverty, hunger, war and the civil rights of others gets pushed to the back pages of the papers. How sad that they now get more than their share of press too.

1. Indeed. Good letter! And the millions who protested the Iraq war back in 2003
got back page coverage as "some local activists gathered in various cities" or bullshit like that.

On my local news (TV and newspapers), the teabaggers' protests get coverage for every one of their protests and gatherings - even though there's usually 10-20 at the most.

But the folks out holding signs for peace, or holding peace vigils, or protesting (or holding seminars/meetings) for other social change stuff rarely get mentioned.

6. The corporate media was told by their fascist owners to ignore millions protesting Bush's policies
but, they give all the airtime in the world to however many dozens show up with anti-Obama sentiments.

2. Hooray!
Great letter! Did they print it? And if so, does the local paper have a comments section so the teahadists can respond? Because I'll bet they will respond, anoymously of course.

3. I just sent it, apparently, not to many people send letters to the editor any more
they 'blog' instead. the last letters posted were from the 8th. But the NJ Star ledger has a special on-line section and in the paper just for letters to the editor.

4. I hope you get published.
From experience I can tell you that it will most likely be ignored. You're not saying anything they don't already know. We are mistaken when we think that if we just present them with facts that they'll see the error of their ways. They know exactly what's going on and they're aware of being part of the propaganda.

It's a really good letter though. There's always the off chance that someone will be influenced by it.

7. Yeah, right on. The novelty of these few white bigot protesters with misspelled signs is over
Let's move on to something of substance, shall we?
