In wake of attacks on police, Hemet considers 'hardening' city properties

Hemet city officials on Tuesday will consider emergency measure designed to help officials deal with a series of attacks targeting police officers.

The City Council will vote on measures designed to speed up a campaign to "harden" city properties, making them less vulnerable to attack. If the measure is approved, city officials could immediately begin awarding non-bid contracts to fortify areas such as public lobbies in city buildings.

A council resolution cites law enforcement intelligence indicating that city buildings are the likely targets of attacks. A primary target is the Police Department headquarters, according to city documents.

"Intelligence reports indicate that the police facility is the likely focus of future criminal acts," Capt. Dave Brown wrote in a memo to council members. "Immediate action is required to harden these facilities."

5. Lots of just plain mean tweekers and Randriods in the Hemet area.

The area used to be pretty much farms and ranches, very rural and out in the boonies, so it attracted not only the farming families and nature lovers, but a lot of drifters or trashy whiners, who's whole focus in life is "just want be the big bad-ass" - who couldn't take living near civilization.
Wouldn't put it past some of them to get agitated enough to group together and play soldiers against the local government until they blow off enough sociopathic steam, they'll drop back into their normal disgruntled stupors.

Of course, these types tend to value life so little they don't care how many people they hurt or kill - nor how many of their own they lose to get their rocks off.

On edit and reflection - there have been a few Apocolyptic sects that have moved out to that area also over the past couple decades. It is possible we could be looking at a seccession type nation building plot from some of those "Warrior of Ghod" types as well as the Aryan Nation groups that were always there. Wouldn't put it past them to try and carve out a prime farming bit of Riverside County for their own private nation. And they'd have no problems slaughtering anyone that doesn't belong to their groups.
I'm not being flip, I'm only sadly observing.

7. Police intelligence is nothing new

They've used the word in reference to organized crime and the like for decades; it isn't something where the NSA or the like is necessarily getting involved.

And while I hate the dilution of the word, I'm rather more comfortable with the word "terrorist" being thrown at groups of individuals attempting to kill or injure law enforcement to intimidate them away from doing their jobs, which are obviously rather necessary if there's a group that brazen operating around there in the first place.

4. more fortresses and fear

Agression is used as the reason for the 'hardening of facilities' and yet it gives me a chill to think of the 'fortification' of govt buildings because they fear attacks. What is the world coming to? ...visions of post-apocalyptic regions or cities that are fortified against the 'riff raff' of the poor or disenfranchised, those who couldn't or wouldn't buy into the fortress living arrangement.
And those in the New Society behind granite walls have everything they could ever want or need and live in luxury and never even have to "look" at the desolation or trash they themselves create.

8. oakland PD has fortified their police cars for years

by putting panels in the doors, etc.

this has, based on numerous times their cars have been shot at w/no cops injured saved many injuries and./or lives

and god knows in oakland they need it

Maybe they are worried about right wing terrorists, but why no-bid contracts? With budgets as tight as they are, get the bids to make sure the money is being spent properly and not as nod to get campaign contributions.
