FAIRBANKS — David Lazenby can sum up the motivation behind the Alaska Peacemakers Militia with a single phrase.

“We’re preparing for a worst-case scenario, praying to God that we never have to use it,” said Lazenby, a Fairbanks resident and sergeant in the local citizen-based force. snip

The nationwide interest in militias has surged in the past year, and Zerbe said it’s no coincidence. He said concerns that the Obama administration will disarm the public have spurred people to join, as well as fears that a free-spending government will bankrupt the country, causing civil unrest.

Cox said it’s a downward spiral that gained momentum under the George W. Bush administration, although it didn’t receive as much attention at the time.

Actually, Obama politically is very close to Richard Nixon, although O is a very decent smart man.
