Poll question: Would conservatives like Obama if he Cut Taxes, Increased Military & eliminated all GOVT programs?
Would conservatives, republicans, tea baggers and everyone on the right support Obama and like him if he increased military spending 100%, eliminated all government programs like Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, unemployment, Food Stamps, eliminated all regulations and laws governing businesses, eliminated the EPA, FDA, OSHA, IRS, etc, eliminated all of his cabinet positions, eliminate foreign aid, stop all diplomacy, cut taxes to 1% for everyone, and of course, started a bunch of wars based on lies?

And would conservatives stop hating him if:
- Obama cured all diseases.
- Obama created a 100,000,000 trillion-quadrillion dollar surplus.
- Obama caused 100% employment.
- Obama stopped all hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, fires and floods.
- Obama invented a magic dust which would bring peace & happiness to everyone.

Or would conservatives still hate him just because they would continue to believe Obama is a socialist, communist, Marxist, Maoist, Stalinist and every other 'ist' in the world?

2. "Real Conservatives" or those who stole the title?
Because those who fit the definition of the word are already grateful.

THe knee jerkers? No. Nothing would sate them.

10. What is a 'real' conservative?
If 'real' conservatives say nothing to condemn the idiocy of the far right, they are just as bad as the most mutant among them. As long as leading republican elected officials do nothing but coddle the violence, threats, racism and ridiculous claims against Obama they are encouraging more and stoking the fears of the far right. An 'adult' needs to show up in the 'real' conservative movement to condemn the tea baggers, the right wing radio hatemongers and Fox News. But they want to continue to milk all of that raw hatred for what they perceive as a political gain when they condone conservative extremists. So far the craziest and most unbalanced have taken over the conservative cause. The insane asylum has been taken over by the patients.

No matter what definition of 'conservative' you are talking about their entire argument is flawed. Conservatism is a failure. Trickle-down economics is a failure. And it should make conservatives wonder about their own beliefs because once in office they create record deficits, increase the national debt and start wars based on lies. Even if their private lives conservatives are failures. They are just as in debt as most people, with over extended credit and huge credit card balances. I am a liberal, but I am debt free. I live my life by pay as you go. But all my conservative friends are in huge debt surrounded by possessions they are trying to pay off and living in houses way beyond their means. My house is paid for and I owe no one.

BTW, I have never heard one democratic leader point out how Reaganomiics completely failed the hard working middle class and poor. When Reagan lowered the tax rates that benefited mainly the extremely wealthy states all over the nation started getting huge shortfalls because they were no longer getting federal funds as they had before. So they increased every state fee, tax or license to make up for the shortfall. The big tax cuts for the wealthy led to the middle class and poor making up for the loss in revenue burdening them with higher state fees, taxes and licenses. My dad had his car license go up from $15 a year to $60 a year. Fishing and hunting licenses went up. Property taxes went up. Sales taxes went up. All these fees and taxes didn't hurt the wealthy, but it devastated the middle class and poor. If a rich person had to pay the 400% increase to register his car it was a drop in the bucket. But to the middle class and the poor it meant doing without something else they needed. Reagan's big tax cuts for the rich transferred the financial burden to the middle class and poor. It was the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of mankind.

Bush-duh-Second shoved through two more tax cuts for the extremely rich and every time the rich get bigger tax breaks, it places more of the burden on everyone else to make up the difference. The country needs taxes in order to operate. But ignorant conservatives are so short sighted, they go into a stupor when they hear talks of reducing the size of government. But when republicans are in office they never reduce the size of government. GW Bush increased the size of Texas government and government spending by a whopping 33%. Even Reagan increased California's government and spending 15%, yet he hypocritically ran on the fake platform of reducing government. In his eight years he increased the size of the national debt almost 400%. But not one conservative complained. And lest anyone blame the increase in debt on the democratic congress remember that Reagan never once vetoed and appropriations bill. And never once did he propose a balanced budget. Everything about Reagan was a myth, but ignorant conservatives who probably can't even spell his name eagerly repeat everything they hear from talk radio and Fox News, never trying to verify what they hear or do fact checks.

Conservatives are too stupid to realize they are paying more local taxes and fees because of those tax cuts for the rich. They believe lowering income taxes is benefiting them, when any slight gains are quickly erased by the increases in state fees and taxes.

How many times have you witnessed a republican state governor or republican state congress LOWER fees and taxes? Ignorant conservatives are clueless. They don't realize they are being had by republicans in office.

What is a 'real' conservative? You won't generally find one in the republican party, or in the tea bagger movement either.

4. Considering how they're still bitching about that Republican health insurance bill he just passed
Hell, even the Republican whose plan it was stolen from (Willard the polygamist dog abuser) is whining about it. The Repukes hated Clinton even though he supported many of their policies. And they hate Obama, even though he supports many of their policies, AND because he's er..... not white. (or as Mittens and Orrin Hatch would tell you, a descendant of some angels who were too lazy to fight Satan)

6. Nope, they'll never like him. 1. He's a democrat
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 01:36 PM by haele
2. He's an educated black man from the middle class with a hot, intelligent, independent wife.
3. His father was a foreigner and his mom was going through a "hippy radical" phase when she married the father. He's been outside the country before he went to college.
4. His background is in community organization, which might as well mean he's a socialist.
5. He's not stereotypically hyper-religious. He doesn't "play" by their game plan and can't be anticipated or penned into a neat little box without being constantly lied about.
6. He's pragmatic, even if his "pragmatism" doesn't make his own party very happy - and he actually tries to work on his vision of what the country should be - something they can't get past playing their DC political games.
5. He's a Democrat. If he was a Republican, he wouldn't have even thought about running for President; he would have stayed in "his place" like a good team player, letting the party insiders get their "well deserved" nominations back in 2008.

7. They would probably hate him more - they ARE haters, look for any excuse
to justify what they already are. I remember RWers whe hated JFK because he was catholic - and/or Irish, hated Carter because he was "a nice guy" (I swear - I heard this myself), hated Clinton because he was smart, Democratic, name your reason on Bill - and Hillary. They will find a reson and if they can't they will MAKE ONE UP....(The Kenyan Userper, for example)

They hate, they love to hate, and they don't know how to do anything else.

8. Right Mark, ignorant southerners said Kennedy was going to build a tunnel between DC & Vatican!
As crazy as it sounds fundamentalist religious groups, primarily in the South, worried that Kennedy was going to build a tunnel between Washington DC and the Vatican. It didn't matter that such an idea was physically impossible, they believed it anyway. It was an effective scare tactic the budding religious right used to manipulate their illiterate, ignorant and gullible flocks of fools.

Right wingers ARE addicted to hate. They listen to non-stop hate on the radio from opportunistic manipulators and then turn on Fox News to get a visual representation of hatred. I don't have to go very far to see the effects of right wing hate. My older brother and older sister are both right wing fanatics. They are in love with dishonest bullies like Bill OReilly and all the right wing radio hosts. They call themselves 'christians', but when my little brother, mom & dad became sick and eventually passed away they didn't do anything to help, nothing, no financial help, no emotional help, no physical help. I took care of all of them and I was there for them emotionally, physically and financially. I was there to lift their spirits when they were down, but after they passed away my sister swooped in to seize all of their possessions, stealing everything she could get her hands on. But she is a good 'right wing christian' and from what I have seen of right wing christians, they are pretty much all greedy, selfish and have no empathy or compassion for anyone else. They equate success with money. And while I was sacrificing a couple of hundred thousand to help my family, they continued their lustful pursuit of money, without even a moment's thought about helping.

I firmly believe that no one can be a true Christian and a conservative extremist at the same time. From what I have seen they are exact opposites.

11. They would still hate him. Good post, actually, it makes a good point.

Obama could be practicing truly progressive policies, and he still would be hated by Repugs just as much as (and no more than) he is hated by them now, anyway.

23. I wish a leading democrat would make this point.
In every poll mentioning Obama there are always 20% who fall into the strongly oppose category. It doesn't matter what the issue is, that 20% always remains fairly constant. I have often thought that even if Obama was Jesus and was the answer to every problem, they would not just continue to oppose him, but they would nail him to the cross again.

Hatred runs deep in the right wing of the conservative party. And it's sad how no prominent republican is denouncing their lunacy, physical attacks, threats, and racism.

18. It's critically important to conservatives that government cannot work.
Anyone who improves government in any way is their enemy.

They've declared war on Barack Obama, but they've underestimated him. At least, I hope so.
