I had a long chat with my favorite American professor today
He said the teabaggers mirror the Weimar Republic's disillusioned Germans prior to Hitler's rise to power and that they too don't even know they are racist.

I asked him about the impact of the last 35-40 years of Republican led US foreign policy and he said I was spot on in my view that from Nixon to Bush they have perfected the destabilization of people centered governments across the world to the point that they are now attempting to do the same in the United States. He said the only thing they have failed to estimate is the fact that it is mostly poor white men who are going to be killed or end up in prison as a result of their irrational anti-Obama agenda.

He said never in his lifetime even at the height of the civil rights or anti-war protests has he seen anything like the behavior of the RETHUGS and their teabagger lackeys.

1. Exactly! Ask your professor about the Freikorps. They preceded the Brownshirts.

2. "The destabilization of people centered governments".
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 02:57 PM by EFerrari
Yep. I don't remember who it was, maybe on Amy's show on Monday, that pointed out that the same tactics used by the World Bank and IMF on third world nations are now being used against the several states. John Perkins has pointed that out, too.

Those chickens are coming home at a good clip.

14. Chile was the South American laboratory for destabilization of democracies.
Edited on Tue Apr-13-10 04:50 PM by leveymg
In many ways, Chile was like a small European country transplanted to the Andean Cone. At the time of the overthrow of the Allende government on September 11, 1973 it was a full-fledged social democracy with a 130 year tradition of continuous elections and civilian governments, unlike all of its neighbors.

The People of Chile before the coup enjoyed universal cradle-to-grave public education, health care, and a guaranteed income. The literacy rate was above 90 percent, and because it is blessed with rich farmland, lush vineyards, and a long coastline, the population was well-fed, healthy, and enjoyed long-lives and a generous public pension. It might have been California at its height, no, closer to New Zealand.

While per-capita income was among the highest in South America, and there was a thriving mixed consumer economy, the wealthy were not happy. Thanks to a line of liberal and socialist governments, taxes were highly progressive and the rich could not evade paying their share. There weren't many imported Mercedes in Allende's Chile, except for taxi cabs, and the rural elites were forced to sell off some of their vast landholdings, but the real wealth of the country -- a richness of learning, culture, and good wine and seafood -- were enjoyed widely.

But, that was not model that men like Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, and Richard Helms wanted for the rest of South America and the world. So, the CIA destabilized the economy and poisoned the privately-owned media with a toxic brew of psychological warfare. The owners of private trucking lines were enticed to go on strike, choking the economy. The head of the army was assassinated by Right-wing death squads. The American-trained officer corps rebelled. The national soccer stadium was turned into a stockade and torture chamber. 30,000 people were rounded up, 3,000 simply disappeared at the hands of the DINA, the Pinochet junta's secret police. In 1976, a DINA assassination team flew to the US, and carried out a bombing in Washington, DC. The CIA, which had the head of the secret police on its payroll and the DIA which handled the communications for Operation Condor, knew about the planned assassination of former Ambassador Orlando Letelier two months before his car was blown up near Sheridan Square. The assassins were let into the U.S. despite their being known terrorists on the State Department no-fly list. Who let them in?

Henry Kissinger and CIA Director George Bush, Sr. proved that Democracies, too, can be murdered.

Holocaust survivors who said much the same thing.
That the US since Raygun was turning scary and much like the pre Kristallnacht times. I had an uncle who was a Buchenwald survivor who said much the same to me as a kid.

9. It seems they haven't "perfected" the destabilization of Latin America.

What nations in Latin America are currently merely colonial and/or right-wing regimes?

The closest is probably Columbia.

and the Caribbean. The focus moved to Eastern Europe in the 1990s following the break-up of the Soviet Union. Note that this doesn't mean that destabilization wasn't attempted, just that after the massive failures in Chile, Argentina and Brazil (particularly the crash of the Argentinian and Mexican economies) the people of the region chose to fight back. They had that space because the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe were the new beauty queens.

15. The irony is that the FMLN won, but it was in elections.
Almost gives one back some faith in the electoral system. Goes to show what can happen when the spooks lay off and have other things to do - like, trying to suppress a Jihad they created. Good luck to that.

The sad truth is they 'only want power' - by any means necessary. They don't care if they destroy the planet and the entire country in the process.

17. There are several paralells as well
the attitude vis a vis unions (damn commies) is also pretty close.

Oh and I forgot,

Gut mitt uns attitude which comes about like a glove with American Exceptional ism.

Oh the chickens are definitely coming home, but what they are not counting on is the coming HOT civil war.

And here is where the entry of the Oath Keeper and Tea bag movement into the Armed Forces is a very dangerous parallel to the US Armed forces of around 1858-9

Quick, who was a Colonel in the US Cavalry before becoming a commander of the Confederacy? If you said Robert E Lee you'd be right. Some of the current goings in the Military and police forces is similar to his (and a few other colonel's fateful decisions)

at least the Mexican-American war of 1848 was not a religious crusade... well sort off... but it was NOT official.

(Yes we were fighting them Catholics for manifest destiny... I am getting way too cynical I know)
