SAN FRANCISCO -- -- A San Francisco lawmaker has come under attack after he raised questions about a speaking engagement by former Alaska governor Sarah Palin scheduled for June at California State University Stanislaus.
State Senator Leland Yee said he has received death threats in recent days, along with racist hate messages about President Obama and homophobic hate messages, apparently because he represents San Francisco...
Some of the messages contained racial slurs directed at President Obama and anti-gay rhetoric that KTVU chose not to repeat.
Yee said he started receiving the derogatory messages after he called on the president of California State University Stanislaus to release details of Sarah Palin's contract.
"I want to voice my complaint about Senator Yee and his attacks on Sarah Palin," said a message about Palin.
Yee says negative messages are nothing new but the tone and words have escalated.
"In the 8 years I've been in the capital, I've not seen, at least directed at me, this amount of hate and what's surprising to me is how open people are about those messages," said Yee.
