Rep. Grijalva's AZ Offices To Close For Weekend After Death Threats
The Tucson and Yuma, Arizona offices of Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) have confirmed to TPM that they will be closed for the weekend after receiving death threats.
According to the AP, Grijalva received multiple threats related to his outspoken opposition to the state's tough new immigration bill, which would make it a state offense to be in the United States illegally. The Congressman told the AP that calls to his office this week included threats of violence and racial slurs.
A local news report says police are stationed at both offices.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has until tomorrow to sign the controversial bill, but reports indicate she may do so today. President Obama spoke out against the bill this morning, at a White House naturalization ceremony for members of the armed services.
