What kind of candidates do you like?

I attended a Democratic debate for my congressional district last night.
Four males, one female.
Everyone was white except the female candidate, she's African-American.

The African American female candidate is leading. Her name is Joyce Elliot. I WAS a fan of hers until last night.

I had always been irked by her not having an "Issues" section on her campaign website. She has all these endorsements and news articles about how she was a great state legislattor. That's great and all but where do you stand on the issues?

The youngest candidate, Patrick Kennedy was my favorite. On his website he has where he stands on the issue and he was the most passionate debator. He's in third place right now.
I ended up convincing a friend of mine to give him his vote. We were both Joyce Elliot fans.

Do you like candidates who tell you where they stand? Why or why not?

1. Only one kind I like

I like candidates with vision, not talking points. It's why I voted for Obama, it's why I might consider voting for someone like Ron Paul. If the person has vision, and a well outlined plan on how they think it can be accomplished, then my ears are listening. I'll take a person with vision over anybody who is just saying "give me a chance, I promise not to mess up".

The future is always uncertain, I expect my elected official will mess up. But I'll stand by them if they keep the vision alive.

2. Dubya had vision

Sensible people knew his vision was distorted.

The same goes for Ron Paul. If you very carefully look at where the man's "vision" is leading him, you realize he's totally blinkered and his grandiose plans will never work.

Unfortunately, low information voters are always going to be snookered by that "vision thing."

4. Just "vision"? Does it matter what the vision is?

Obama and Paul have radically different visions. Are you saying that it doesn't matter what they believe, as long as they believe in it passionately enough? In all respect, that doesn't make much sense to me.

3. The ones who are not incumbents. There are many member of the

House and Senate who have been there more than 20 years.

Many people, even here on DU, speak of how poorly congress is and has been doing, yet the same people continue to appear in the halls of congress because we insist on voting for "the name you know."

Some here wil say words to the effect that 'it isn't my congressman, he's one of the good ones.' If we all said that, there would be no bad ones = but there are. And we keep them.

5. Liberal, very liberal...

...I could not care less about age, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity. The only requirement is that the person is LIBERAL! And, yes, it is the stance on the issues and the discussion of the same that made the decision for me. Other than that, education and experience are important. But a well thought out ~~ complete with facts and theory ~~ liberal discussion will get me everytime.
