Crist: No way to drilling

BY MARC CAPUTO, MARY ELLEN KLAS
AND CRAIG PITTMAN
Times/Herald Tallahassee Bureau

The oil spill spreading across
the Gulf of Mexico is sending
ripples through Florida and
national politics, giving Gov.
Charlie Crist a reason to withdraw
his support for offshore
drilling.
After a 90-minute plane flight
Tuesday above the spill, which
was spreading in an 80-mile by
42-mile blob, Crist said, “Clearly
it could be devastating to Florida
if something like that were
to occur. It’s the last thing in the
world I would want to see happen
in our beautiful state.’’
He said there is no question
now that lawmakers should give
up on the idea of drilling off Florida’s
coast this year and in coming
years.
He has said previously
he would support drilling if it
was far enough from shore, safe
enough and clean enough. He
said the spill is proof that’s not
possible.
“Clearly that one isn’t far
enough and that’s about 50 to 60
miles out, it’s clearly not clean
enough after we saw what we
saw today — that’s horrific — and
it certainly isn’t safe enough. It’s
the opposite of safe,” Crist said.

Earlier in the day the Legislature’s
main advocate of drilling,
incoming House Speaker Dean
Cannon, R-Orlando, said the disaster
had him asking questions.
“It causes me to want to examine
what happened and how it
could have been prevented, and
we need to figure that out before
we make any further decisions,”
said Cannon, who has proposed
allowing rigs as close as 3 miles
off Florida’s beaches

edit to add...........
Charlie may announce tomorrow he will be running as an Indy..if he does ..with this stance..he will get the Indies in the State of Fla..as well as our large environmentalist groups and advocates..as well as many many Fla Dem's that are now extremely disgusted with Obama's stance on drilling!!

I was just sitting on my porch Over looking the Gulf of Mexico.. watching a school of propoise jumping and playing in the water..god's most delightful sight , I tell you..the babies jumping and flipping themselves and coming full out of the water...and flying backwards on their tails..Just a sight to behold.. and then I thought what happens to these beautiful creatures when they are covered with oil..The thought made me sick to my stomach.

What if this slick of oil moves down my way..these creatures are doomed..all because of the fucking new world order fuckers..all because of greed..because some very rich MTF'ers think they have the right to take these beautiful creature's home..and we have politicans who think their place in the world is more important ..and power is more important to those fuckers ..than the beauty and innocence of nature and the habitat of the greatest gift to mankind....!

We are addicted to the stuff. Oil. It's always been a problem.

7. well since almost all dems and most Dem's in the gulf states have fought for decades to stop opening...
Edited on Wed Apr-28-10 12:31 PM by flyarm
more and more oil wells in the gulf and the coasts of the USA..I would say it is Obama who flipped the Democratic party..his stance is a total flip of what Dem's have fought for and kept out of our water ways for decades..

Obama has done what no repuke could dream of over the fights and dedication of Democrats throughout the nation FOR DECADES...to stop Oil drilling in our coastlines and waterways..Reagan couldn't do it..GH BUSH couldn't do it..GW BUSH couldn't do it..and Jebbie here in Fla couldn't do it..But in 1 1/2 years Obama flipped what no Dem politician ever dreamed of doing..and Promised to never do..

Yes Obama ..in his campaign * promised * the people of Florida to never do, what he has now done!

So your analogy goes both ways...in fact I would say it is a abdication of his promise and his job as a democratic party leader!

Understand this..there are thousands and thousands of CAPPED wells right now not being used..why do we need more? Let me tell you why..it's the leases on the Gulf of Mexico..it is a New World Order plan to own the whole Gulf of Mexico..and the oil sitting under it. You read that right..it is a plan of the NEW WORLD ORDER...all dems in the state of Fla know that..the environmentalists know it..( of which we in Fla have a very large activist society of)

Why if we need this oil aren't the wells that are already dug and capped off being used??????? Thousands of them...why??????? Why do we need more to destroy our eco system??????? why???????

Even (R) Mel Martinez republican Senator from Fla went against his party and leaders and refused to go along with drilling in the Gulf or Atlantic Ocean off of Florida..to the anger of the repuke party.

9. My sarcasm was to highlight the idea that
all Dems have to do to get the repukes against something is to say that Obama is for it.
