Woman injured in boating accident at Disney

LAKE BUENA VISTA - A woman was injured in a boating accident at Walt Disney World after her boat went under a Disney ferry.

According to an Orange County Sheriff's report, 61-year-old Barbara Wormald was treated for a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and back pain after becoming wedged between the vessels.

The report says Wormald and her husband rented a two-seater boat Thursday near the Treehouse Villas.

Ferry boat captain William Green said he saw the boat driving recklessly and put the ferry in reverse upon impact.

Michael Wormald said he saw the ferry in the distance and thought it would move. As it approached, he turned quickly to avoid a crash, but the ferry ran onto the boat's passenger side and over his wife.

Charges are pending against Wormald. Disney declined comment.

I have not boated for years, but I remember going left when ever on the boat and the pilot wheels usually on the left side of pleasure boats.

Maybe they went right, backward from driving LOL.

9. It is actually surprisingly difficult to evaluate vessel paths.

I've never really had any near misses on the water, but a lot of effort went into determining who was on a collision course and who was not.

I do know that places in Florida where you rent Jet Ski's if even in a supervised situation, you have to be 16 had get a boating license.

There surely would have been some instruction to avoid the BIG boat or something.

17. I've rented boats several times there... no permit required, common sense is required & that is a

narrow stretch of waterway... basically when the ferry is coming towards you, you all but stop your boat after you move out of the way.... we rented larger boats at that location, but the problem is the same, it's narrow and the ferries create a wake, you must use common sense.

12. I've been on one of the Disney ferries that travels the

canals in that area. The driver didn't know what he was doing and ran the ferry aground. Not saying that the people in the 2-seater weren't at fault in this instance, but also no guarantee that the Disney ferry was entirely in the right.

Never had a problem.
