Specter questions whether he should have become a Demcorat
Clue: When you say "I probably shouldn't say this", DON'T SAY IT. Idiot.

====

Not a terribly helpful thing to say when you're running for re-election as a Democrat. From Political Wire:

"Well, I probably shouldn't say this. But I have thought from time to time that I might have helped the country more if I'd stayed a Republican."

-- Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA), in an interview with the Allentown Morning Call, questioning his party switch last year.

3. He means, helping himself. He is no Democrat and hopefully will go down in the
primary.

If he does beat the Admiral, he will probably lose to Toomey.

No big difference, IMO. A puke is still a puke, no matter what he calls himself.

10. Of course he's a Democrat. He started out as a Democrat, then
just pretended to be a Republican for 40 years, and then returned to his roots.

Had them ALL fooled.

That will definitely make the evening news around this part of PA.

8. He was talking about helping the Democrats pass legislation
Specter mused that perhaps if he'd remained in the caucus he could have persuaded one or two of his GOP colleagues to support health care reform. Not one Senate Republican voted in favor of it, but he swears he would have regardless of party affiliation.

''Coalition building has gone out of style in this wing of the building,'' he said. Breaking from party ranks to vote with the other side is a ''very unpleasant experience.''

12. Thanks for clarifying that point, although I don't think it will make much
difference to some here.

14. I am no fan of Specter but taking someone out of context like this is Drudge like
Sen. Arlen Specter, who one year ago today switched his affiliation from Republican to Democrat, told the Allentown Morning Call that, just maybe, things would have been better if he never made the switch.

"Well, I probably shouldn't say this,'' he said last month. ''But I have thought from time to time that I might have helped the country more if I'd stayed a Republican.''

He went on to say that he could have helped pass the health care reform bill as bipartisan legislation.

-------------------------------

I see his point. And he may very well may be right. Who is running this americablog anyway? Anyone know?

16. Yes, he would have help this nation more as a Repub
He would most likely have been defeated in the Repub primary and if he survived that brutal battle, he would have given Sestak a clear advantage over him in the general.
