If you are stopped in Arizona, do your rights allow you to not show papers or answer questions?

I would think so.

Regarding ID, I ask the same question, I believe the courts have said it's legit for the police to ask us either to give our names or show ID (this is different than "papers") and if we don't they can detain us.

But if I were asked for a passport or something like that, I think it would be within my rights to not offer it up and then ask, "am I free to go?" and also, "am I required to show papers or documents relating to my citizenship or immigration status"?

What do folks think?

5. rights don't "allow" things

People are routinely talking about rights as though they were privileges or permissions granted by the authorities.

The Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights do not talk about what the people are allowed to do by the authorities, but rather about what the government is allowed to do by the people. They say that we have a moral obligation and duty - "it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government" - to restrict the government from infringing on or denying rights (and the listing of certain rights is not intended to suggest that they are the only rights - "the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people" ) which are presumed to exist prior to and separate from government - they are "unalienable."

Once we start seeing rights as privileges, permissions or favors granted to us by the authorities, the battle against tyranny is already lost.

Clearly, the bill as written allows them to arrest anyone tht does not show papers. But I just looked at the bill and cound not find exaactly what constitutes proof of citizenship.
