1. He has a point, actually. The Hitler stuff should really stop.
It gets to be ridiculous at times...I think we can refer to historical references without constantly going to Hitler. After a while, people stop listening. After all, is everything is Hitlerism, nothing is Hitlerism...as the saying goes.

Let's just go at it with our facts, which are always stronger than theirs...

3. I also think the Hitler references take away from the millions
who suffered and died at the hands of that madman.

We have the facts and sheer human decency on our side.

And Lindsey Graham is a good guy moving America forward. :puke:

5. Yes, and that is a different question. I absolutely agree. Tweety has his blind spots.
Badly and often.

Occasionally, he comes round to our point of view when it is absolutely, one hundred percent CLEAR that he should do so...the man doesn't really have guts to be a leader, tho...that's for sure...he follows the banner someone else has taken the risk to raise...

6. To think it can never happen again is to forget what brought
Hitler and his criminal organization to power. Everything is relative.

7. This is EXACTLY the part that Matthews misses
Calling HCR fascist is insane, but if Matthews can't see the parallels between effectively requiring an internal passport just to walk down the street and fascism then just when the fuck is it appropriate to make such comparisons? Do we have to wait until Arizona starts opening internment camps and building cremation ovens?

13. I agree, and have a similar view about the way George Lucas sent Nazi imagery into a space future
Along with Vader's Nazi helmet. He also had Solo's Millennium Falcon setup with a WWII bomber style gun turret that behaved like a mechanism of that time but that's Hollywood, where imagery is massaged *all* the time

So by using Nazi refs here, and while the mindset of Nazism never seems that far away; Fascism, which flys no flag, loves it when the charge against their corrosion is lead from another point in time. Where they are able to dismiss it as hyperbolic, and, well...behind the times. The faces & mindsets of elitist, white-wing supremacy, war profiteering & corporate neo-con fascism are here today and yes - in need of an image update

Not to say in Star wars 3, where Lucas made more than one point to both current (GWB era rhetoric) and old nazi style politic...

I really thing Lucas was scared about the politic of that age - as we all was if we tried to follow around the world what happend...

20. Hey, Diclotican, good to see you, friend, and yeah I do agree...
The visceral, negative reaction to the image of Nazi Fascism is a powerful one. And while George addressed many of the same Nazi traits in THX 1138 - with chrome, jack booted baton wielding robot centurions, that piece - THX - was less successful commercially. Even tough THX found a way to object most pro-actively then finding his little place in the sun at the end for his efforts

When George reintroduced the future, he did so with easier to recognize, more time-tested Nazi imagery that ended up slapping Star Wars onto T-shirts and lunch boxes round the world - unsuccessful commercialism solved so I do agree

The image of black leather clad Nazism (they were certainly dapper in their costume) remains a visceral one to this day - that seems better suited in some cases and perhaps less so in others :hi:

The symbols the nazis of the 1930 and 1940s used was mighty ones... And even today, mroe than 60 year after the fall of Nazi-Germany the symbols, that be the swatsika, to the uniforms the SS used... It is not difficult to understand that modern Germany have harsH penalties for pepole wearing symbols from that time in history.. It is NOT legal to wear even symbols just resemble the symbols of the nazi germany...

And when Lucas made Star wars, the symbols for the Empire was really clear for many.. Even tho it might not have been on purpose, the uniforms, the symbols for the empire, that be the Star Destroyers, to the details of the uniform, that Darth Vader is using is pretty clear... And the story of the Empire, from the start, as a mere chanclor for the Republic, to the full flegded tyranny in most of the known Universe is rather well known history, from many places, most known is maybe Germany in the 1930s, but also in other parts of the world the same story about "salvation" for the masses... And then evil came to the land...

And I have to say, the nazis of the 1930s was verry smart in how they managed to project POWER by their use of symbols, and specailly the symbols in uniforms.. Must have been scary, terrifiying to se the black leather uniforms of the SS.. Specially if you was the target OFF the men in this type of uniforms.. In large parts of Europe just the uniform was enought to scare peopole to submission.. Or to often futile act of defence.

That movie you say about here, I doubt I have seen that before, hm have to se where to find it I guess.. Im a litte Sience Fiction dude:P

Hope you are okay where you are by the way.. Know things is hard over there in US, But as I often say, when the tunnel looks to dark, it is daylight in the end...

The famous Gokstadskipet who by the way was discovered in a old viking burrial site, and then transfered to viking museet (viking museum) in the 1910s... And the burrial site have also one of the most impressive property from the viking age http://www.norway.com/directories/d_company.asp?id=671 who the way is a place wort wisit if you ever was to be in Oslo.. And if you ever was in Norway and Oslo, please feel free to give me an PM, so I can give you a guided tour if you are not to bussy.. Can allways show you some places in Oslo, who are interesting.. The musums at Bygdø is just a few of them.. But vikingmuseet is asolutely one of them who are interesting. By the way, In the viking museum it is also anoter viking ship, in not that good shape as this are, but still as a far worse shape, it is still one heck of a Ship...

And at one time, just the sight of an viking ship was enough to scare the holly willy on most europeans... The vikings was vell known as maybe the best warriors - and smart traders when the need arise.. And if you dosent se "their point of wiew" they could at easy plundrer you, and the whole town in the prosess...

But for the most part, the vikings was rather peacefully, jus really misunderstudd by the rest of the world:evilgrin:

It's either a duck or a closely related waterfowl.
