Due to the storm some canals overflowed, flooding homes and damaging infrastructure in the north of Salta province, 1,500 km northeast of Argentina's capital Buenos Aires, mostly affecting Pocitos, Araguay and Salvador Mazza areas. "Above average rainfalls led to rivers breaking their banks and carrying off people's homes and livestock. It also uprooted the gas mains in Salvador Mazza; so we are left with neither drinking water nor gas," said local mayor Francisco Ibanez. The provincial government has sent aid to residents and declared a state of emergency in the affected areas.
