*SIGH* - It Wasn't Even Close

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/06/senate-votes-for-wall-str_n_567063.html

A move to break up major Wall Street banks failed Thursday night by a vote of 61 to 33.

Three Republicans, Richard Shelby of Alabama, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and John Ensign of Nevada, voted with 30 Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, in support of the provision. The author of the pending overall financial reform bill in the Senate, Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd, voted against it. (See the full roll call.) http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=2&vote=00136

The amendment, sponsored by Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Ted Kaufman (D-Del.), would have required megabanks to be broken down in size and capped so that their individual failure would not bring down the entire system.

Under Brown-Kaufman, no bank could hold more than 10 percent of the total amount of insured deposits, and a limit would have been placed on liabilities of a single bank to two percent of GDP.

In practice, the amendment required the six biggest banks -- Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley -- to significantly scale down their size. It was touted as a way to end Too Big To Fail...

2. LOL,
So in that vote six won? Is that what the article is about? LOL

Wait for it...

Then again maybe breaking up the big banks takes on many methods and ideas of how that happened.

3. Well...
It just shows that corrupt politicians who are in the pockets of the special interest groups are on "both" sides of the isle, and they "ALL" need to be voted out of office!

4. It's pretty bad when my Senator, Tom Coburn, a crazy Republican, votes for
something that this many Democrats vote against.

The Dem "NO" votes have familiar names on the list: Bayh, Landrieu, Baucus, etc.

It should be pretty obvious who these people really answer to. The ones who aren't running again need to be forced out at the earliest opportunity. They are the problem.

10. When grassroots groups run dems against them, THIS needs to be in the ads.
They need to be shown for the whores they are.

6. Only 30 Democrats...
Boy, that shows you how deeply invested the economic royalists are within the Democratic party.

Sad.

7. You got it!
It will be damn near impossible to do what needs to be done. Too many Senators are in the pockets of big money.

8. Some seem to have voted against it
because of the larger financial reform bill they're trying to get through. The feeling was that the larger bill wouldn't have a chance with that attached to it.

Yes, it sucks. However, this is a very conservative Senate. We can't expect real world legislation from them. The health care mess showed that.

9. I am so proud of my Senator, Sherrod Brown, aka "The Good Senator Brown"
for even trying. I expect he will keep on trying.
