44. It's true. I didn't support him. The candidate I did support was sabotaged

by the DNC and the DLC. I trust the DNC more, now that Dean (whom I supported in the caucuses) is chair, but if the DLC wants me to strongly support its candidate in the general, it needs to play fair in the primaries.

And the general candidate needs to run a decent campaign. Which didn't happen in '04.

It will NOT happen. Eventually, someone will jump into the ring who can beat her in the primaries. The ONLY thing she has going for her is name recognition. Truly. There is nothing so wonderful about her that is going to keep people from backing another candidate of greater "merit".

I haven't heard anything bad about Richardson yet, so he might be the one to get it, simply because he's got non-Northeastern gubernatorial experience and he can distance himself from Iraq.

But it will not be Hilary. For starters, as soon as the lesbian rumors come out, (again) or if people start discussing Vince Foster, too many people will get nervous. If I recall, there were also rumors that Bill came away from some "confrontations" with Hilary with scratch marks on his face.

Everybody is being nice right now, because it's too early to waste breath on this sort of thing. But it will be hitting the fan before next January. If you think Kerry got blackballed with "Unfit to Serve", you ain't seen nuthin' yet. You've already seen the "cabbages and tomatoes of Islam" that have been thrown at Obama.

It will get much, much worse.

(AP) In a stunning reversal of fortunes for frontrunner Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Iowa Democrats turned out for their local caucuses last night and cast over 28% of their votes for Delaware Senator Joe Biden.

Polls from as early as this past summer showed Senator Biden's candidacy to be registering with approxaimtely 4-6% of the Iowa Democratic caucus vote, but the tragic turn of events in the Middle East, coupled with Biden's long-standing command of international affairs, propelled him to victory.

In the unofficial caucus tally, Senator Biden led the field with 28%, followed closely by former Senator John Edwards with 24%, Governor Bill Richardson with 14%, Senator Barack Obama with 12%, Senator Clinton with 9%, Congressman Dennis Kucinich with 8%, with the remaining percentages split among others candidates. Native Son Tom Vilsack's withdrawal from the race in September opened both fundraising and political options for several of the remaining candidacies.

General Wesley Clark, former Vice President Al Gore, and former Senator Mike Gravel chose not to compete in the Iowa caucus, but appear on the ballot in subsequent primary states, including the upcoming Nevada and New Hampshire primaries.

Voting was heavy throughout the state, especially in the northwestern counties. "It clearly rivals the 2004 turn-out, maybe a bit larger," said Lee Harmon, a poll supervisor in Cedar Rapids. "Democrats just came out of the woodwork to vote this time. It felt great."

Biden's ascendancy came to the delight of his campaign staff but also to the chagrin of the Bush administration, which exit polls indicated is the root of the blame for the tragedies which have unfolded in Iraq and elsewhere in recent years.

Throughout his campaign in the state, Biden stressed that the Bush administration's "surge" -- the escalation of troop commitments dating to winter of 2007 -- was an "invitation to slaughter." His campaign stressed the failure of the military solution the president has long insisted upon and clearly benefited from its failure. Early polls indicated that Biden did not enjoy wide or deep support in the state; however international events brought the administration's failings to a vivid public scrutiny not seen since the waning days of the Johnson years.
