Maher: "We've experimented with a President we want to have a beer with."
Edited on Tue May-08-07 04:40 PM by Bluebear
Someone who is "just like us". "Elite" is not a bad word. Let's try someone who's maybe BETTER than us!

====

As a Democrat you can't be elected Prez unless you sound like you fell off the turnip truck

In response to Wolf Blitzer's STUPID question on which "accent" of Hillary Clinton's that Maher preferred.

I think I could guess, but I'm regrettably in the dark on this one. Sounds like fun.

5. I don't enjoy mean-spirited teasing along with my beer ...
So I definitely wouldn't want to go out drinking with Dubya. Friendly people who can relax without Bush-league smarminess or put-downs are much more fun -- I'd choose the Gores or Kerrys, any day!

10. Right, but he was implying that accent made her sound stupid.
Wait, that awkward performance did make her sound stupid. Mostly it made her seem tone deaf. The more she veer from the carefully scripted events, the more her notorious tone deafness will present itself. She's a formidable campaigner and a damn smart women. If we had a classical parliamentary system, she'd already be prime minister.

But we don't. And her tendency to say things that can be easily twisted into a smear against her is going to hurt us if she's nominated.

11. Haven't you heard?
Making fun of Southerners isn't considered intolerant or bigoted to many on this board, despite the fact that most on this board allege to be both tolerant and not bigoted!

24. i think it has more to do with sounding slow rather than unintelligent
I'm a stenographer, so I know a little about people and the speed they speak with. I've taken depositions with Northerners and Southerners and Southerners clearly speak a tic slower than people in NY.

Personally, I love that. The slower the better. :)

30. I agree. I'm a broken down court reporter.
Not journalist, court stenographer that bangs on a Stenograph machine in trials.
I lost my mind from the stress of it.

I once had the misfortunate experience of attempting to take down a divorce trial with a pro se litigant who decided to file grievances on everyone from the bailiff up to the chief justice of the state supreme court. Everyone who was a court officer was a substitute.

I told him to slow down. I believe at the time I could take down about 250 wpm or so. He refused to slow down, so I got up, and shook my finger in his face while the jury laughed at him. He looked like a large, tall, rotund pink baby. Those guys are the worst. He was a doctor so he thought he was God. I should have made a sua sponte motion to the judge to hold him in contempt for refusing to follow the directions of an officer of the court, but didn't. The judge attempted to handle him. I got a grievance filed with the state board by him and had to go to the state capital with a lawyer to defend me.

The judge once informed him he made 90 objections in sixty minutes. Bleahh!!
No wonder I lost my marbles years ago.

"Is America is ready for a Black Prez?" "America was ready for a retarded president(sic)."

America had it's damn beer with bush, only bush keep drinking and didn't stop. he lied and sent our Soldiers to a War On Iraq and bombed Iraq, killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis for the OIL.

So, does America want to have a serious discussion with an intelligent, passionate, humorous, Truthful person who wants to start undoing all the damage the goddamn alcoholic has pissed on America?

13. It's not that simple, I believe, as a Democrat, you can't be elected Prez
unless you're ready to run against the Mass Corporate Media in addition to any Republican Challenger because they're conjoined twins.

If an eloquent Republican (I know bear with me) were to run against a falling off the turnip truck Democrat, the Democrat would be trashed for their ignorance and the Republican held to high esteem for their locution.

If an eloquent Democrat were to run against a falling off the turnip truck Republican, the Democrat would be labeled as an elite, latte drinker and the Republican would be championed as a man of the people, someone you might be comfortable having a beer with.

23. I don't want to have a beer with Bush
Edited on Tue May-08-07 05:46 PM by nam78_two
I have never wanted to have a beer with Bush.

I wouldn't have a beer with Bush if it was FREE and that is saying a lot since I am barely out of grad school and scrounging for free food/drink is second nature ;).

Sorry, got distracted from the main point by the lesser point that many of us never even found him appealing even as some guy to hang out with. He looks like the kind of guy who would get way too drunk and tell bad jokes and end the evening by throwing up on some unwilling girl he is trying to chat up :puke:...

25. It's worth pointing out though.
Was thinking the same thing. You'd have to be a psychopath to want to have a beer with Bush. He IS part of the elite, and it's ridiculous that he still has this image of being some "schmuck like us".

If I have to have surgery, I would rather have someone who is a good surgeon than one with a good bed-side manner.
It is a different matter that Bush doesn't even imo have a good bed-side manner (figuratively speaking).

But I bet even the dum-dums who wanted to have a beer with him, would find him obnoxious if they actually hung out with him.
He would probably fart at them as he does with new staffers :eyes:.

34. this longtime grad student agrees with you!
And you're talking to someone who has been so desperate as to lurk outside the Admin conference room, to scarf down any cookies or sandwiches left over after their high-level meetings!

If Bush were standing there offering me not only beer, but a 5-course state dinner -- I honestly wouldn't want any part of it. First, I would be wondering what he was up to (because he doesn't seem to be the kind of person who would be giving away free stuff to us hoipolloi ... look at his cuts to social services). And second, I would lose my appetite.

I don't suffer fools well.

I understand what he meant (I think) ... though, I am a bright woman I want someone smarter and better prepared than I am ... certainly not someone that is proud of their ignorance and someone that spent their formative adult years in a drunken/drug induced haze.
