Crist almighty! May we finally see the end of the computer voting machines in Florida?
I thought I would never say this, but Charlie Crist has done some good things since taking office, even to the point where some republicans are calling him a liberal democrat.

So far, he has backed a bill to fund stem cell research, signed a bill to cut home insurance costs, promised to change Jeb Bush's controversial FCAT (required school testing)and created an "Office of Open Government" which is supposed to make government more accessible to the people.

Now he wants to throw out those bloody computer voting machines.

Only time will tell if how sincere he is about all this, but it seems as if he is trying to bridge the great divide between democrats and republicans.

1. This is a good step, but must require audits with OptiScans, otherwise
the *paper trail* does us no good whatsoever. Also the OptiScans are vulnerable to manipulation at the central vote tabulator computers.

I still am an advocate of hand counted paper ballots, counted at the precinct level, under direct observation by the public, and with the tally called in to the Secretary of State's office.

In any case, I'm sure Crist is giving lots of republicans indigestion thus far... fine by me.

4. He has pleasantly surprised me.
I hope he keeps it up. I do believe he's a republican, but more of the more sensible and balanced type.

5. Maybe he is just a normal republican
It's been so long since we had one of those that it makes him look like a democrat.
