"Iranian Involvement" in Iraq |
|
When the press (and the Bush Administration) talk about "Iranian involvement" we have to be careful. Iranians come to Iraq often on pilgrimage to Shia holy places. Iranians have relatives in Iraq and vice-versa. The Iraqi government (yes, that democratically elected one Bush brags so much about) has a treaty with Iran for economic and military aid.
We have to consider this in attempting to discern what is "official" Iranian government sponsored activity and the involvement of Iranian radicals in Iraqi on an unsponsored basis for their own religious and sectarian reasons.

foreign communities and their interactions and this is how our soldiers got screwed in Iraq.
This is far more dangerous territory than Iraq, and Iran has millions of boots to put on the ground.
