DU - What's the latest on C.O. Status?
My son is 11 years old. We used to attend a Quaker meeting but we were never members. I'm telling myself that with an Attorney General arguing AGAINST Habeus, that there is no way this regime will honor C.O. status.

What do think?

1. CO Status is only if you object to all war, not just this one
Being a quaker, your son would certainly qualify. It will still be honored, he just cant sign up willingly, that would negate his point.

2. Well, as I said, we attended but never joined. We aren't documented.
He will never join voluntarily.

Thanks for the reply.

3. I believe - a long history has to be established
Attending (long-term) a quaker church would be part of that 'record/history'. During Vietnam a relative (family were active Quaker) was granted C.O. he still had to 'serve' but instead was required to do public service work (full time - not on the side) in the states - can't remember for sure, but I think that it was at a Nursing home or a mental health facility.

5. As I recall
In Nam we had CO's that were clerks, medics and chaplins. It wasen't always a "way out" of service, just a non-com situation.
