Why would we spy on Quakers?

Could it be because they can attain conscientious objector status and our government wants to monitor if they are allowing people to join just to attain that? If this is the case...could this be a warning sign that a draft is coming?

28. You might be confusing the Quakers with the Amish

Quakers are as into modern technology as anyone. I used to attend our local Quaker meeting for many years. There might be a few who avoid modern-day stuff for philosophical reasons, but none do it for religious reasons per se.

But you brought to mind an interesting point: the Amish are one of the traditional "peace churches" as well. If being pacifists is what brought the Quakers under government surveillance, does that mean they're monitoring the Amish as well?? :crazy:

Also, if people were to be exposed to Quaker's beliefs, they may actually be convinced that Jesus was some kind of peace loving radical that challanged those who used religion for political gain.

Because it is a known fact that the Quaker religion/philosophy is about doing good and being an active participant in ones own community.

The Bush Administration finds that to be a "threat" to their security appparently.

anti-war organizations? The American Friends Service Com. is a wonderful, helpful, and people oriented group.
I've been very moved by my encounters with their members, and the gentle but FIRM- committed attitude that they display.

I was searching for some help for a friend from Africa who was becoming a US citizen,(willingness to join military was a pre-requisite) and they connected him with someone who knew what was going on-

I've also had the pleasure of keeping vigil with a wonderful 89yr old Quaker man, who has stood outside the capitol at lunch hour every weekday, for over 5 years winter, spring, summer, and fall.- He is a wonderful inspiration.

Quakers walk their talk- I admire them.
