British Inquiry on Torture

To the Editor:

Re “Britain’s Prime Minister Pledges an Inquiry Into the Torture of Terrorism Suspects” (news article, July 7):

This would be an excellent time for the Obama administration to engage in a parallel inquiry, particularly since it is likely that the British inquiry will uncover information that will embarrass the United States.

Better, and more honorable, for us to initiate an examination of our own security agency misdeeds than to have them revealed during an inquiry by a friendly government looking to do the right thing.
