We adopted a beagle rescue
(more photos to follow)

My sweetie and me have named him Murray. He was brought up from North Carolina where he was dumped at a shelter (as so many beagles are down there) because it appeared he didn't want to be a hunting dog, just a lap baby. He's housebroken, doesn't make a sound (he has his vocal cords, he's just quiet and laid back) and likes other gogies and our kittehs. He is an absolute doll. Weighs 26 pounds, passed his heartworm and Lyme tests, he got all of his shots and passed his visit with our vet. He needs to chew some rawhide for his tartar, but he'll be ok with that. And we promise not to make him a blimp!

1. Cute dog.
And if you get him fat, it's no biggie, it's hard to say no to the new guys. There's always dieting after you get yelled at by your vet for the first time. :D

2. Congrats! He's a beauty boy.
I live in NC I didn't know that we're noted for Beagle dumping. :( California sends Chihuahua's to the east cost because there are so many of them being dumped.

Hate it that people think of dogs as accessories.

Good Luck to you and Murray. :toast:

10. Handsome boy!
The lemon beagles have great colors and his markings look very symmetrical....and he looks happy! I'm always a fan of the beagle "grin". When they're happy, you know it!

We just adopted our baby beagle boy (say that 3 times fast!), Rembrandt, a couple months ago. His mom was rescued while she was pregnant with 11 beagle pups. We got Remy after we had to put down our old beagle girl. She was a similar story to yours. She was NOT a hunting dog and was left at a night drop box at a shelter, likely because she'd rather cuddle with you than chase a raccoon or rabbit! She was a wonderful companion for the last decade.

If you are interested, feel free to check out Remy's blog and compare stories! :) http://thebeagleblog.weebly.com/

11. We rescued a goldfish.
for 39cents from the pet store, it was a feeder. It is twelve years old now. Daughter named it Goldie!

On the same day my other daughter rescued a second goldfish. It had a black spot above its' lip. She named it Hitler. Died that night poor thing. Bad karma, I guess.

12. I think their nose has something to do with so many beagles ending up in shelters
Got to watch them like a hawk. They get on a scent and before you or the dog realizes it they are in the next county over. Their nose takes over their brains really easy.

Good looking little guy.

Keep an eye on him.

Don

49. That is the truth
Just last week I heard a beagle baying as she was running around our property. I lured her with water and food and read the tags on her collar. She was 16 miles from home, exausted but couldn't stop chasing the scents. They are known as the escape artists of the canine world.

And YAY to you for adopting him. All of my gogies and kittehs are rescues and they are the BEST. It's as if they know. ;-) Newest addition here is Luna, a black lab mix, four months old. Her momma was abandoned at the shelter when pregnant w/heartworms.

35. Such A Sweet Face
I rescued a beagle when I was 16. I was driving in the country trying out my new license and saw a man hitting a beagle with a stick. Being 16 and immortal, I stopped the car walked into the mans yard, dared him to touch the dog again (he was drunk), unchained the doggie and took him home with me. The drunk just stood there cursing at me and threatening me. He was the nicest dog I ever had, I still remember his gentle nature.

36. We have a lot of re-located southern dogs here in PA - Murray is a great looking guy
and I hope you are all as happy as he seems.

Beagles are real individuals and great companion dogs...He WILL dig some new holes for you, and make sure he has a good fence and leash - if they catch scent of something interesting, they will follow their noses for miles....

Welcome home, Murray!

He looks great! But..... Tartar is a very big problem, health wise. Can lead to all sorts of serious problems, and I don't think rawhide will help. It might be best to have a professional tooth cleaning.

52. Our wonderful Vet recommended using the rawhide first. He is not a proponent of
anesthesia unless absolutely necessary. We think part of his hunting training was to NOT keep anything in his mouth. We've tried a bunch of different size rawhide rolls and as soon as he takes them, he'll drop them at our feet and sit up wagging his tail.

Baby needs to learn how to be a dog again.....
