Supporters of Johannes Mehserle plan to rally Monday in Walnut Creek to protest the former BART police officer's involuntary manslaughter conviction in the shooting death of Oscar Grant....

An earlier version, which by Tuesday afternoon had been taken down, declared: "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. ITS TIME TO STOP THROWING OUR OFFICERS UNDER THE BUS. ITS TIME TO STEP UP AND SUPPORT JOHANNES AND OUR OFFICERS AND TAKE A STAND. OSCAR GRANT WAS RESISTING ARREST. JOHANNES MEHSERLE TOLD THE TRUTH!"...

John Burris, attorney for Oscar Grant's family, said he was not surprised such a rally would be held.

"There are individuals who support Mehserle and support police in general & and that's just part of & the split in this country, those who don't really understand the actions of the police in the African American community," Burris said.

Oh dear. Just when things were quieting down out here... :scared:

I think the police fill a critical role in society. Police who abuse power make it more dificult for the police to do their job. I don't support the guilty merely because he is a cop.

4. Hey some people will go to idiotic lengths to prove they are unrealistic
and stupid enough to support a murderer...ONLY because he wore a badge at one time. That's it, just because he was a cop...therefore he can do no wrong - ever. That kind of thinking is dangerous for a supposed 'open society' imo.

7. Walnut Creek........rich, ignorant, white folk!
Not all, but many of them haven't nor have ever had an independent thought or idea in their head. They are the Sarah Palin, Rush Limpballs, Bill O'Reilly, etc., followers.
I know what I speak of, as many of my close kin reside and imbibe the hate and call it christian???? They also have no problem with taking from the liberal/socialist Federal and California programs while at the same time bitching about their taxes funding the unemployed and poor???

8. Ah that explains it, thanks.
These are the same people Micheal Moore talks about in Bowling for Columbine.

9. WC isn't the conservative center of the East Bay anymore.
That honor goes to Danville.

I'm going guess that your kin live in Northgate or thereabouts. That's the bastion of moneyed conservative "Christians" and it's just up the road from the courthouse. Citywide Walnut Creek saw a sea change in the politics starting in the mid-1990s, around the time the real estate market overheated west of the hills and the largely liberal people there ventured through the tunnel looking for housing. There are now many more registered Democrats there and in most of central Coco. For statewide and national voting WC shows strong support for Democratic candidates (moderate Dems, but still that's a major shift.)

It's still pretty lily white and the housing costs are too steep to let in people who aren't at least middle income, and the yupscale downtown brings in all of the rich ignorant conservatives from all of the rich ignorant white folk areas. ;)

5. Walnut Creek a)isn't Oakland, b)isn't even in the same county,& c) isn't where BART HQ is located,
all of which leads me to conclude that a bunch of cowards want to rally where there'll be little opposition.

Teabaggers would be my guess.

6. Exactly. These asshats are probably afraid to leave CoCo county.
Might have to interact with the plebs, you know.
