The report that Iran is sending militia into Iraq probably is true.
That's not good for Bush, in my opinion. It's terrible, because it shows his lack of planning and forethought.

The military historians that I know have been expecting this. Indeed, that's why they opposed the invasion and destabilization of Iraq in the beginning--because any fool could see that a "democratic" Iraq would be a Shia-headed Iraq. And any fool could have calculated that that would mean much friendlier Iraq/Iran relations, especially when faced with American aggressors.

I don't doubt that majority Shi'ite Iran is assisting majority Shi'ite Iraq. I think it's just more evidence that George Bush doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, and he never really did.

2. No evidence, but Bush opened up a powderkeg then poured gas on it.
He has destabilized the region into a festering religious civil war. I don't doubt that Iran would try to horn in on Iraq.

9. Maddy is claiming that 'the report' is true.
It would be nice if Maddy actually linked 'the report' so we could inspect its truthiness. In my opinion Maddy's opinion is nonsense. Iran has no motive to get directly involved in the Iraq mess, certainly not while 130-160,000 of our troops are on her Western border, an unknown number are in various bases ringing the other Iranian borders, our Navy is in full force in the gulf, and our air force is good to go with another round of shocknawe.

11. ok
I usually do not demand a link to back up an opinion if it is stated as such so explicitly.

When someone makes an assertion, that is a different story.

17. You said "The report that Iran is sending militia into Iraq "
Generally if you would like your assertion to be evaluated on the facts, you need to present us with the facts to evaluate, in this case 'the report' mentioned in your first sentence. Otherwise you have merely presented us with an assertion devoid of any supporting evidence other than your opinion.

19. It wasn't an assertion, it was an opinion
And frankly, if you've been paying attention at all for the last couple of days, you already know what reports Maddy was referring to.

I get really tired of the "link, please" mentality sometimes -- it sounds far too much like, "It must be true, I saw it on the internets."

As an added OPINION (for which I have no link, sorry, so don't ask), given that Iran's government is not exactly friendly to the U.S., to dismiss out of hand ANY motivation Iran might have for interfering in Iraq is questionable at best. One possible motivation is the desire to see the U.S. caused just a bit more trouble than we already have.

Whether Iran is, in fact, interfering remains to be seen. But I can certainly see a possible motivation for it.

22. Speaker for Maddy: 'the report' not the same as 'reports'.
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 11:33 PM by Warren Stupidity
When one says 'the report is true' it has a very different meaning than 'the reports are true'. I asked for a link to 'the report'. I got none.

3. If the Iranians are doing anything, then the Saudis will be out looking
for some Sunnis to do the same. There are a lot of unemployed Sunni Egyptian young men hanging around Cairo.

All in all, we're up you know what creek without a paddle.

18. It could be a really, really bad situation for our soldiers.
It's not their fault that they were sent to fight a stupid and unnecessary war.

I want them all to come home in one piece soon, both physically and psychologically.

8. uh, hmmm, no sorry but I think that is total bullshit.
Iran has no motive to send militia units into Iraq. Iraq already has two huge shia militias, and the official Iraqi government is dominated by the political wings of those same two militias. Iran has no motive at all to do anything overt that would justify our attacking Iran. Please get a clue. We are in full bullshit disinformation mode. Please do not propagate the bullshit.

Its everywhere too. I switched on to something other than The Daily Show for the first time in a while and its creepy how the drum-beats for war with Iran are on every channel.
I realize now that people who watch tv see something that some of us are missing...If you just read the paper, it isn't this obvious.

This is just sickening. Anderson Cooper is in full-on "scary Iran" mode. It reminds about the run-up to the Iraq war :(.

And even if they are, so what. They aren't gonna invade and trash the country like we did. bushco would like nothing better than to have us wag-that-dog and it looks like some people are falling for it madly.

10. What we are seeing is staged distraction...
While the PNACers are busy pulling off their world-domination foibles,
we get the story that the media and the politicians want us to digest.

I really do not listen to any news stories any more. I only watch what
the administration DOES, because thats' all that matters.

What we see and hear now from the news--is staged distraction--intended
to keep us absorbed in the daily minutiae of political arguments and the
daily news stories.

They love it when we become enraged about some BushCo move. They
feel the love when they create partisan divisions that get people
talking about everything except the PNAC long-term plans.

Their agenda is on their Web site. They needed to get a foothold in Iraq.
They did that. Next on their agenda is Iran. Everything else--is
just superfluous.

They're plodding forward and we're the gabbing little insects that amuse
them.

14. I can see individuals or groups crossing the border, but won't believe State sanctioned without proo
without proof that is. It depends on your definition of "Iran". I don't see State sanctioned groups, but can see individuals or groups otherwise crossing to help/hurt.

15. IF it is true....
Bush can call on his good friends Malaki & Chalabi and have them step in to stop the Iranians. After all, they were both exiled in Iran until we invaded Iraq. I'm sure their ties with the Iranian leaders can help quell Iranian involvement. :sarcasm:

Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 03:25 PM by bigtree
There are plenty of factions in Iran that are not under the control of the government. It's like the world accusing the U.S. of harboring and aiding the 9-11 terrorists who lived and operated in New Jersey.
