he also confronted them with their own complacency, with each new monthly installment demanding that they reexamine their poor laws, their institutions, their orthodox morality, and their assessment of human nature in general. In effect, he held them hostage for two years in the slums of London before 'reawakening' them with the obligatory happy ending.

We need a reality TV show examining the real state of the middle class and working class.

1. "All in the Family," and "Roseanne" did just that
and both shows were incredibly popular. If it's ratings they want, they'll look for another in that genre, a working class show that takes on the things that working class folks are dealing with.

(The thing that struck me is that those were the only two shows that ever showed the people (gasp!) watching TV.)

Yuppie shows are generally boring. What new grads just starting out in NYC can afford a roomy one bedroom apartment that doesn't have the bathtub in the living room? What insurance salesman can afford a big, well furnished house complete with a stay at home wife? What planet are these people living on?

I want to move there.

2. I don't watch a single sit com
since those you mentioned and Cosby. Cosby could have done way more with social issues, but he did reflect a lot of truth about the 'disconnected by choice' Afro-American professional class. We really need some reality shows exploring serious issues.
