Senator James Webb is having alot of fun with the Bush Administration
He has decided that C.Rice should respond to his inquiry of 2 weeks ago about if the Adminsitration felt they had the authority to invade Iran. she did not respond so he sent her a little note:

Well, it's been two weeks, and Sen. Webb is still waiting. So he's asked again, in a letter sent to Rice yesterday. To help speed a response, he even suggested the range of answers she might provide: "This is, basically, a 'yes' or 'no' question regarding an urgent matter affecting our nation’s foreign policy."

And to ensure that the administration got the message that Webb remained interested, he also asked the question of Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte during this morning's hearing.

the full letter is as follows:

2. Me Too
but what does it say about what our Representatives have been doing the last few years that one doing his job now is something worth commenting on?

3. I'm not sure how much fun it is when his son's life is on the line
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 01:19 AM by Hippo_Tron
Fortunately we have people like Senator Webb to represent the families of our troops that want to hold this administration accountable for putting their sons and daughters in harms way based on lies.

Don't get me wrong I had fun watching him rip apart Senator Macaca and hearing him say that he had to restrain himself not to slug Bush but I don't think Webb has the luxury of enjoying everything that he does as much as we do.

4. Exactly. He's not playing around. He means business.

I'd be doing the same thing if I were in his position. Why others aren't is beyond me. I wish they'd stop dilly dallying around.

8. My first thought, also. The man is not having fun. He's as serious as a heart attack.
High stakes for everyone.

6. Here's the letter - can't say enough good things about my senator!
January 29, 2007

The Honorable Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of State
Department of State
2201 C Street, NW
Washington, DC 20520

Dear Secretary Rice:

During your appearance before a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on January 11, 2007, I asked you a question pertaining to the administration’s policy regarding possible military action against Iran. I asked, “Is it the position of this administration that it possesses the authority to take unilateral action against Iran, in the absence of a direct threat, without congressional approval?”

At that time you were loath to discuss questions of presidential authority, but you committed to provide a written answer. Since I have not yet received a reply, the purpose of this letter is to reiterate my interest in your response.

This is, basically, a “yes” or “no” question regarding an urgent matter affecting our nation’s foreign policy. Remarks made by members of this administration strongly suggest that the administration wrongly believes that the 2002 joint resolution authorizing use of force in Iraq can be applied in other instances, such as in the case of Iran. I, as well as the American people, would benefit by fully understanding the administration’s unequivocal response.

I would appreciate your expeditious reply and look forward to discussing this issue with you in the near future.

Sincerely,

James Webb
United States Senator

22. Yeah, and that still worries me a little.
Honestly, if it hadn't been for George "Macaca" Allen being a total idiot, I think Webb might not have won. :( And that would be very, very sad, because I think he's just what we needed. I am loving this guy! :patriot:

10. Jim Webb is a straight shooter who has neither the
time nor the inclination to play games while his son's life, and the lives of all the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, are on the line. He knows damn well what this criminal cabal's intentions are and he's not going to be satisfied until he gets a straight answer - something these thugs are incapable of. He's going to be a huge thorn in the side of the BFEE. Good. About time.

13. Oh yeah I like this guy....
...and I also like the TPMMuckraker poster that posted these lyrics:

You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim, da do da do...

14. Damn, dude- this guy is on FIRE.
That is creative, courageous, well-centered, and, actually, the REASONABLE thing to do, that point being made so succinctly in the very message itself.

17. i think this guy provides a blueprint for the democratic party and ALL
the issues they are concerned about: minimum wage, healthcare, economic equality, etc...

and may i also note paul hacket was very much in the same vein -- muscular and unafraid to move forward aggressively.

18. I am beginning to think Webb is among our finest Democrats
Which worries me...you KNOW the Busheviks have a tendency to MURDER our finest Democrats.

Ahem...let me rephrase...it seems our finest Democrats and sometimes some Republics like John Tower or PA Sen. Heinz who stood against the Imperial Family, are always dying in mysterious cirumstances. Lone gunmen. Mysterious plane crashes (where the FBI is dispatched an hour before the crash). Suicides in which the "suicidee" takes the time to select untraceable bullets. Second tier Dems shot during robberies where the "robber" didn't take anything and lots of Dems and potential whistleblowers falling from greater than 75 feet onto a hard surface.

This, coincidentally, is one of the primary methods advocated by the now-declassified CIA Assassination Manual. Google it to see if I am misleading here.

At any rate, I don't think the Busheviks will move swiftly to kill Webb. For one reason, the Busheviks have now done this so frequently (relatively speaking) that one more mysterious death of a leading Democrat will catapult tinfoil suspicions that much closer to the mainstream.

Plus, how long did they wait to kill Wellstone? They waited until it was CLEAR that his "base" was going national and that his honor and integrity would throw the cowardly corruption of the Bush Family into sharp relief.

I suspect they will bide their time with Webb, as well. But I fear for him. He is a good and honorable man and such are VERY dangerous to a Hitler, a Pinochet, or a Little Boots Bush.

21. They had better stay the hell away from my Senator
 I think you're probably right that they won't do anything to him (yet...and I really hope they don't do anything to him at all!), but if anything happens to Jim Webb, I think it's safe to say that Virginians (myself included) are going to be angry. :grr: And you do NOT want to go up against angry Virginians. Keep on holding them accountable, Senator - you're doing great, and it's so refreshing to have someone like you representing us! We've got your back. (Damn right, you don't mess around with Jim...and you better not mess around with his constituents, either!) ;)

24. My friend, I too hope I am wrong about murderous Bushevik intentions
I, too, hope Sen. Webb has both a long and distinguished political career as well as a long and fruitful life.

But I cannot deny what I see, and I am afraid for him over the long haul.

However, I also think that with this latest trio of high-profile political murders, JFK, Jr., Carnahan, and Wellstone, the Busheviks will be loathe to try it again for awhile. Also, one assumes the Busheviks spend as much or more time listening to the "chatter" of American Citizens as they do to al-Qaeda, and from this they KNOW that further assassination of prominent Democrats, especially those special few of high honor, integrity and that mysterious quality of charisma/electability, will meet with high levels of anger and suspicion TO SAY THE LEAST!

And if they whack Webb, it won't just be Virginians who are angry.

19. I'm soooo proud he's my Senator. Especially after living in a state w/Felix.
At least John Warner is a decent man, one who I disagree with alot of his positions but still respect him. (Won't vote for him though!)

Next time out, we need to get MARK Warner in as a replacement for John Warner, whether or not he retires.
