Concerned Women Are Concernified About Chelsea Clinton's Jew Husband-To-Be
Concerned Women Are Concernified About Chelsea Clinton's Jew Husband-To-Be

Citing statistics about the divorce rate for interfaith marriages, the Concerned Women for America aren't too happy about Chelsea Clinton marrying a Jew. It won't even be a real Christian marriage anyway!

If doctrine is more than just cultural observances, there is no way it can merely be a casual, insignificant part of a believer’s life. For the true Christian believer, this means a life lived in light of Christ’s singular claim that He is “the way, the truth, and the life.” Taking His claim seriously, that He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6), means that all decisions are made in light of His teaching and commands. This includes His teaching that marriage is intended by God to be a life-long covenant — not just between the couple, but sealed by God and witnessed by fellow believers in the couples’ church community. That said, real Christian marriage includes a commitment to follow Christ, both in lifestyle and in childrearing. Religion that is not practiced is little more than a set of myths and of no more significance than the fairy tales told to toddlers at bedtime. Faith that does not make demands on behavior is not faith at all. Inevitably, a lack of unity in faith entails multiple problems on both the little and the large issues that couples continuously encounter as they face the task of building a strong, meaningful, harmonious marriage. How could it possibly be otherwise?

I'm Jewish, my daughter is married to a "gentile"...and they're very, very happy. Their love supercedes religion...especially those that attempt to moralize.

Here's wishing Chelsea much happiness...she's a classy lady and above all the petty bullshit people are tossing out there about her marriage. Many are the same people who made her childhood hell with their relentless attacks on her parents. They can all go fuck themselves!

15. I'm a little confused
Chelsea Clinton is marrying for the first time. She's the daughter of a couple also on their first marriage, despite some incredible pressure to break up. I think if the Concerned Women of America are as concerned as they say they are about strong marriages and honoring life-long covenants, perhaps their energy would be better directed to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Mel Gibson, and Newt Gingrich?

17. Concern this:
I'm an agnostic from a mongrel background, and my wife (was) a Catholic from a family whose genealogy goes back to the year 1473.

We've been together for 36 years, married for 28 0f them.

I don't know either the bride or the groom, but I've spent some pleasant evenings at the dinner table with Marjorie, the
groom's mother. If she is any indication, her son will be just fine, and so will Chelsea.

They'll be fine.

22. So... interfaith marriages are 3x more likely to end in divorce?
Considering that 50% of all marriages end in divorce, I'm having a very hard time believing that statistic. I'm guessing that would mean close to 100% or maybe even greater than 100% of all interfaith marriages end in divorce. Doesn't quite seem right to me. Math aside, these women are fucking loons.

26. Your math IS wrong. ALL interfaith marriages end in divorce and then they get married
again AND divorce again.

That's how you get to the 150% figure.

Or maybe, there is overflow when every mixed-couple divorces. Then, they go back to "their own" but, because of the damage done to their immortal souls, they wind up divorcing their co-religionist as well.

Or maybe they're using the earth-as-6000-years-old algorithm.

Or...

Nope. Math just does not work out. Sorry I couldn't help.

45. actually you are dealing with a weighted average here
which is why they might be right. The number of interfaith marriages (especially if you discount ones between different Protestant sects) make up a small number of the total marriages. Thus even a very high rate amoungst those would only drive up the average so far. It is possilbe that the rate amoungst same faith marriages is say 25% and the rate amoungst mixed faith is 75% with no faith at around 50%.

46. I understand weighted averages, I still don't believe this for a second.
First of all, only about 20% of the population is agnostic or atheist. That would most likely mean that around 80% of all marriages are same or mixed faith*. So, the great bulk of those 50% of marriages that end in divorce are marriages involving either the same or mixed faiths. By their own words, interfaith marriages make up about 25% of all households. Let's assume for a moment that interfaith couples have a 75% divorce rate. That would mean that same-faith marriages have a 25% divorce rate. You plug in the numbers and you get something like this:

.25*.75 = 18.5% (Contribution of interfaith couples to overall divorce rate)
.55*.25 = 13.75% (Contribution of same-faith couples to overall divorce rate)
.20*.8625 = 17.25% (Contribution of atheist/agnostic couples to overall divorce rate)

So, that would provide the atheists/agnostics with an 86% divorce rate, making them even worse than interfaith couples. *Now, I know that this doesn't account for marriages with one person of faith and an agnostic/atheist, but it's just some rough math. Considering that the most religious states (those would be the red ones) also have the highest divorce rates, I don't buy this math for one second.

Increasing their wealth, power, and influence.

More people should read the bible. Now really read it. And just follow the good teachings therein. Organized religion is a scam to separate you from your money and, especially here in Texas, to brainwash you into voting for every wacko Rethug that comes along. The idiots here ask the priest about upcoming legislation and if they should vote for or against it. I'll use my own brain to decide that, thank you very much.

30. CWA Founder: Beverly LaHaye, wife of the religious fiction (heresy or redundancy) author Tim LaHaye
Concerned Women for America, given their purported values, should be more concerned about "Dr." Tim LaHaye's "heresy" than about Chelsea Clinton's wedding.

Mrs. Beverly LaHaye
Founder and Chairman, CWA 6/5/2007
Founder and Chairman, CWA

Beverly LaHaye founded Concerned Women for America (CWA) in 1979 to protect and promote Biblical values for women and families-first through prayer, then education and finally, by influencing our elected leaders and society. CWA works in six core areas of America's modern cultural turmoil: sanctity of life, definition of the family, the fight against pornography, education, religious liberty and national sovereignty.

Recognized Women's Rights Pioneer
Mrs. LaHaye has been frequently recognized for her leadership in the political and Christian community. In 1984, she was named "Christian Woman of the Year." In 1988, she was named "Church Woman of the Year." In 1991, she received the Southern Baptist Convention's "Religious Freedom Award." The Values Action Team of the U.S. House of Representatives honored her in 1994 for her service to the country. In 2001 she received the Thomas Jefferson Award for her outstanding Leadership and CASA's "Heritage of Faithfulness Award." In 2003 she was privileged to receive the American Association of Christian Counselors' Caregiver Award. In 1992, Liberty University awarded her an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities for her lifetime achievement in protecting the rights of the family. Mrs. LaHaye was honored with the Extraordinary Woman of the Year Award (2006) from Extraordinary Women, a ministry whose mission is to host events and provide resources that equip women to handle life's difficulties while enriching their hearts, encouraging their souls and expanding their ministry. She was recognized for her many years of steadfast service and outstanding achievements.

Author
Mrs. LaHaye has authored nine books and has co-authored seven more. The New Spirit Controlled Woman, The Act of Marriage and Spiritual Power for the Family are works that have carried a special message of encouragement to women across the country. Mrs. LaHaye's A Woman's Path to True Significance, co-authored with Dr. Janice Crouse, was released in 2001. Through her books, Mrs. LaHaye has carefully instructed women in the delicate blend of the calling to be wives, mothers and leaders. Her best-selling fiction series Seasons Under Heaven written with Terry Blackstock illustrates how these themes weave into family life.

Former Radio Talk Show Host
Mrs. LaHaye pioneered the award-winning show Beverly LaHaye Live as a daily outreach to influence women and men to take political action, build strong families and take leadership in their communities. Beverly LaHaye Live was awarded the National Religious Broadcasters' "Talk Show of the Year Award" in 1993. With an updated format and new title, Concerned Women Today carried on Mrs. LaHaye's vision as a family-friendly talk show that covered cutting-edge news and offered practical advice in fighting the culture war until April, 2004.

Spokesperson
Mrs. LaHaye has appeared on countless newscasts and interviews defending faith and freedom in America. She has been seen on CBS Evening News; NBC Nightly News; ABC's World News Tonight and Nightline, and Donahue. She has written routinely for USA Today, and her editorials have been placed in other top papers across the country. Mrs. LaHaye has also conducted over 350 seminars with her husband on Family Living in the U.S.A. and 46 foreign countries.

Mrs. LaHaye currently serves on the boards of Liberty University, Childcare, Intl. and the International Right to Life Federation. She and her husband, Dr. Tim LaHaye, have four adult children, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. They live in Southern California.

She'd say no.

In reality ... if asked this question, I suspect she'd dodge it ... she would not want to tell the members of the false Christian churchs that they are out of the club ... better to have the false Christians think they are true Christians, so they'll vote GOP.

But I'll bet she has a list of true Christian denominations, and the false ones.
