7. I'm next door in NM and very little of that stuff is going on here

In fact, a lot of this state is designated sanctuary areas and we do give illegal aliens driver's licenses* in the hope they'll register and insure their cars, something that is actually the case. Registering to vote in this state takes more than a driver's license (I provided my passport) and the illegals have no SSN on theirs.

The humane approach is working because the thugs don't want to screw it up and there's a great deal of pressure from the community to avoid letting them screw it up.

*there were out of state illegals trying to get NM driver's licenses in the news last week. Out of staters get busted, and the state is starting to advertise that fact. The two last week were not Mexican. They were from Poland, a couple of blue eyed blonds who would never get stopped in AZ.

The dangerous drug wars came up as a topic of discussion here in a conversation completely unrelated to politics. Crine is actually quite relevant when it comes to tourism. The kids aren't going down to Mexico anymore and tourists are also staying away. Having crazy drug war thugs crossing the border to kidnap and hold you for ransom is not a good selling point either.

lying about quite a few incidents recently, attributing some very garden variety American on American murders to drug violence by illegal aliens.

We don't have that kind of media overhype although the rare crime is reported.

The major business AZ is missing out on is from wealthier Mexicans coming north for vacations and shopping sprees. Even though their documentation requirements weren't changed by that silly Juan Crow bill, the prospect of being stopped every few minutes to produce them was discouraging, to say the least.

As for enforcing the law, why didn't Brewer concentrate on enforcing the law AZ already had, the one that penalized businesses and individuals for hiring illegal alien labor? That's the law that would have worked.

I am getting kinda tired of the hatin' on Arizona I gotta say.

Not all of us are racist conservative bigots. There are a LOTTA good people in this state who are very much against all the insanity going on here...but its always the negative sh*t that makes the headlines. *sigh*
