from the Detroit Free Press:
TRAVERSE CITY -- UAW President Bob King expressed confidence today that Virg Bernero, the UAW’s endorsed gubernatorial candidate in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, will prevail over Michigan House Speaker Andy Dillon.
But can Bernero win in the November general election?
“Yes,” King told me, “because you know what? People are angry. People want somebody who’s going to fight for the middle class, somebody’s who’s going to fight to keep jobs in America. ...
“I think sometimes people misunderstand what frustration and anger is out there,” King added, in an interview after his speech to the Management Briefing Seminars here. “It’s about jobs, it’s about manufacturing, it’s about a decent standard of living. And he’s somebody who will make jobs and manufacturing a huge priority. And the way to do that, I think is, to bring more manufacturing back in this country.”
What if Dillon prevails in the primary? Would the UAW support him in November?
“We will always look at the choices and the person who will best support our membership. And I think Andy would do that more than the Republicans I’ve seen so far,” King said.
