The light in my refrigerator went out tonight. And I have been thinking...
about these things that we all take for granted.

Like when everything is working, just fine.

And then something breaks

You know, how when you are really broke and you come home from work (with the kids) and your power is out because you were between the rock and a hard place?

Remember when you spun it all (all you had, anyway {and them some}) together and got it all turned back on, somehow?

Think about that happening to you - every day.

Difference is, you are less than powerless.

Because you are not an address, you are in a sector.

And you are screwed.

And you are trying to keep your family together,

Can any of us here truly empathize/sympathize with the poor Iraqis?

Can you even begin to put yourself in their place?

Oh, I forgot to mention those pesky explosives.

2. A big ass hurricane that blew half my roof off reminded me of that.
I'm sitting here in the dark because my electricity has been off for a few days. I have one power line that runs up the side of the house that enables me to use a teeny tiny heater and my computer. Hopefully the contractor will finish the rewiring in a day or so... it's taken 1 1/2 years to even get a contractor.

3. Oh, damn.
You know, you are always the kindest, sweetest person, and I sometimes let it roll over me that you are still dealing with so much because of that damned storm, because you are so good-natured and positive.

Yeah, I guess you and merh--the two DUers I think of first, I know there are probably others--deal with the trauma of devastation every day.

I'll try to do better to keep you in my thoughts. :(

I haven't heard from her in a long time. I have avoided the hurricane relief threads... I don't like to talk about it that much with other survivors... I can't keep my eyes dry. :(

edit:

5. Last I heard from her...
Things may be looking up for her. I'll let her tell you what's going on--but she may not have to stay in her trailer a lot longer.

 back. And another  for good measure.

6. Thank God I have always had a home and most of my family
A lot of people in Iraq have lost all that. I do not see my self holding up and one can understand their hate if you see your self in their place.

7. I have had an airplane fly too low and make such a loud sound that it unsettled me. I thought at th
the time, if just a noise upsets me, what would it be to think those very airplanes had bombs that might be dropped on me.

That's as close to emphasizing as I can get, and there are lots of people that can't even do this little bit (Republics.)
