And, significant ones at that. Under JFK, the top tax rate was a whopping 92% on all income over $400,000 dollars. Unemployment was low. We ought to raise the tax rate to at least 90% on all income over 2 million dollars. Rather than paying those taxes, those making that kind of money would give that money to charity, and HIRE people...because they could do it at 10 cents on the dollar!

We would see unemployment drop, and those being hired would be paying taxes as well. We would solve the deficit problem, and be able to pay teachers, and hire more, as well as police, firefighters, etc.

We ought not only let the tax cuts expire on the wealthy. We ought to raise the top rate significantly.

2. Newsflash: Wealth HAS to be redistributed for the economy to thrive.
The reason the economy is in then tank is because the wealth is being hoarded, and not being redistributed. The bailout should have been to give every person in the lower tax brackets $10,000 to spend.

Whats that have to do with the price of tea in China?

You want redistribution, repeal Regan's top marginal tax cuts (use that to fund social services that promote upward mobility among the lower quintiles). You want pandering...send a few hundred home to the workers that still have jobs.

I just don't think the grand "progressive" solution being presented here is just that, nor will it come cost-free (Im referring to extending MCTC). As for the rest of what you propose, great advice, but its just not on the party's radar. Not enough political willpower

3. I agree.
90% seems about right for the top marginal rate, and no loopholes like low capital gains/dividend rates either.
