My new hero! Woman stands up to Target....
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 01:22 AM by CoffeeCat
I just love this woman. She's so sweet and she took the time to make this video of herself
shopping at Target, then returning the items and then explaining to the manager that she won't
spend her dollars at a store that supports anti-gay causes and politicians.

She was told not to film inside Target, but we see enough--and her sincere and heartfelt words
in the video are inspiring and just so sweet.

I love this woman!!!!

And of course, I am boycotting Target too!

Like the woman in the video said, "This is about people. And people are more important than anything
I can buy in that store."

4. You're Up!
I wrote a letter to Target today telling them why I was switching my prescriptions to a different pharmacy. Good to see that others have taken a stand too.

Off subject; just did my 5,00th post tonight... in the lounge....

On both!
I don't shop at Target, but after tomorrow, my children won't either.
This was news to me...so must spread the word to all.

peace~

2. She's good!
Here she is with her husband and son trying to deliver a letter to James Dobson. . . and being arrested.

5. The Target woman who said... to take pictures at Trarget you have to have an approval...
While she was saying that, she also put her finger on, and then right under her nose and in the same move was covering her mouth...I think she was lying.

Kudos to the woman who made this video! Am sending it to others :)

Thanks for posting this CoffeCat! :loveya:

11. Stores can indeed restrict the use of cameras. They can not take your camera or what you may
have already taken.

8. This woman has single-handedly gotten more publicity than any of the organized boycott efforts.
Her video has gone viral - it is posted on numerous main-stream media sites.
In your face, Target!

12. Awesome! I also used to shop regularly at Target
but now I'm buying just about everything online or second hand. I'll no longer feed the corporate machine that destroys civil liberties, our environment, and our economy.

AWESOME!

Say hi to Uncle Jake for me, ma'am... :hi:

ETA: Wow, some of the comments there are just astounding and indicative of the disease that exists in this country. For example:

15. The problem that many people will have is the fact that once Target and or Walmart
enter a community the local stores get forced out, and once they are gone, there is no more choice.

All over the country, the smaller local chains have been gobbled up or forced out of existence, to the benefit of the BigBox, Inc. stores. True, they DO have "everything", but once you give them your money, it's gone from your community forever (except for the pittance paid to the local employees).

If you are of a certain age, you can remember a time before "Suburbia, USA", when MOST businesses were locally owned & operated.

The money spent in your community STAYED there and circulated freely. Prices may not have been as cheap as walmart, but when you bought that office chair from your local furniture store, the salary & commission paid to the person who sold it to you, supported a family & that salary was spent within your community..It did not leave. And it was likely that the chair you bought had been made in the USA as well, and somewhere along the line that chair's manufacture paid a wage that supported a family somewhere just like your town.

You also probably remember the "Look for the Union label" ads on tv, and most clothing you bought had that funky little label in it to remind you that your purchase brought a decent standard of living to the people who made it.

Businesses are not easy to start up these days, so even the most entrepreneurial of people have a difficult time getting a foothold in today's business-world, and people are so damned used to making a one-stop-shop , they are no longer willing to "forage" among many small stores & shops (unless they are on vacation & it's for fun).

With all the smaller places now gone & light manufacturing (or big manufacturing) mostly gone, the only jobs that are available are with BigBox, Inc & they love their bargaining power. They roll into a community and throw their weight around by "offering" lots of jobs, BUT in exchange for their magnanimous gesture, they have a few "must-haves"..those are usually "tax-exemptions for x-number of years, road building done for them, re-zoning for them, etc....and of course what happens when the tax-free time ends? They either want it extended or they pack up their shit one night, and move to the next gullible community, and their Big Empty, Inc now is just another addition to Asphalt Acres..We have had an empty Home Base (108K sq ft) for 15 years.

17. My mother wanted
to go to Target today for some of their advertised tennis shoes. I said, "NO!" You are not giving $$$$ to a corporation that gives that $$$ to repugnants.

I think their prices are high anyway, especially their food.

19. Boycotting is probably the most effective weapon we have
Consumption is about 70% of the GDP. Boycotts of specific businesses with repugnant political agendas, and, if the time comes, a general boycott of all nonessential goods, can send a powerful message.
