It's time to get this right

Perhaps it doesn't matter to bigots like Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich, and it should matter to the no longer credible Anti-Defamation League, but the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks included innocent Muslims, some of whom were killed in the attacks. But when considering the pain and suffering of those who survived 9/11, or who were traumatized by it, it's worth considering that there are more than half a million Muslims living in New York City. They saw what other New Yorkers saw. They smelled what other New Yorkers smelled. They experienced the same devastating horror and sorrow. They were New Yorkers like any other New Yorkers. They were no more responsible for the attacks than were any other New Yorkers.

3. The overgeneralization of blaming all Muslim New Yorkers and even Muslims en masse

is intolerable. My brother practices Islam and to extend the blame of 9-11 to him is ridiculous. He grieves for the victims and is saddened by the words and actions of the fundamentalists of his religion. His Islam is peace, love, and hope for a better world. While I'm not converting to join him, I strongly respect his faith and would defend him against anyone, including family.

4. I'm surprised that the ADL would sink so low

as to issue such a statement. Maybe I'm naive and have been taken in by their own propaganda, but despite their obvious Jewish chauvinism I thought they retained a sufficient committment to liberal values to shy away from at least overt promotion of religious discrimination.

and he's nothing to write home about. When a temple was vandalized and robbed in Caracas, Foxman immediately started defaming Chavez all over the world as an anti-Semite. And of course it turned out to be an inside job that the government had nothing, nada, to do with.

7. I lost a lot of respect for the ADL after they actually opposed a hate crimes bill for the homeless

This was after a trio of punks here in Florida beat to death a homeless man just because he was homeless.

The Anti-Defamation League actually sent a representative to Tallahassee to vocally oppose the measure (which I believe passed in the end) because they thought it would "dilute" hate crimes. In other words, because it didn't deal with bigotry directed towards their own interests, it doesn't matter.
