If We Cared About The Women And Children Of The World
If We Cared About The Women And Children Of The World

It would be far better to spend $100 billion per year granting them political asylum and paying for their transport and relocation to the US than invading their countries and caressing them with our freedom bombs.

Or you could come up thousands of other ways to spend $100 billion all of which would be almost infinitely better than invading their countries and caressing them with our freedom bombs if we cared about the women and children of the world.

So when an asshole like Rick Stengel suggests we must stay in Afghanistan otherwise more girls will be mutilated even though we're currently in Afghanistan and poor girls are still being tragically mutilated, I don't think that's the real reason he thinks we should be there.

1. Well there's a small wrinkle
In that many, if not most, are not really interested in abandoning their homes and moving to the United States. It seems a special sort of arrogance to blithely assume that everybody in the world is just desperate to move to America.

2. That and I'm wondering...
...what if they want to leave and they aren't allowed?

Surely, if the Taliban or whoever is willing to cut off noses and ears I'm going to guess they probably want to make sure these women and children can't just pick-up and leave on their own.

It's hard enough for women and children in abusive relationships in the US to escape their abusers. I'm sure when the abusers wield absolute political power it tends to "complicate" matters.

That's not to say I support war. I don't. I'm a pacifist and proudly so but I also know bad actors and abusers when I see them.

I don't think most people being abused want to leave their homes. They love their homes as much as we love ours. I believe education and civil support would do much to alleviate the factors that drive ordinary people to fall for the venom that some use to turn others into suicide bombers and terrorists but we're dealing with groups that mutilate people for going to school.

It's heartbreaking.

3. Women and children can't be helped
So long as religion is respected above all things on the planet.
