Poll question: Do you watch Faux News? Better think again...
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 01:42 PM by AnArmyVeteran
If you watch Faux News on satellite, cable or the internet chances are you are paying the salaries of buffoons like Beck, Hannity, OReilly and Palin. When you watch Faux News it raises their ratings and ratings are turned into cash. I have Faux Noise blocked because I just can't stand to even accidently see one of their buffoons on my screen. I'd rather step in a fresh pile of dog crap than to see Glenn Beck's insane rants.

From what I understand from numerous sources, if you have digital satellite, digital cable then your viewing habits are being uploaded every day when your DVR is 'updating'. I'm not sure how much the Neilson service means any more, but when your satellite company has access to everything you watch it just sounds logical that companies would find that information invaluable and use it to get sponsors for their programs.

Disclaimer/FYI/Other BS: Your DVR or cable box are nothing but computers. And like computers they upload and download information to and from the cable or satellite companies. Since every time you switch channels or every program you record can be uploaded to a company it would be ludicrous to believe they aren't using that information for their financial benefit. The Dish network charges you an additional $5 if you do not have your DVR hooked up to your telephone line. For what reason do they require that since they can upload and download at will? Is it to get more up-to-date (or instant) feedback on your viewing habits? FYI: You can protest the $5 charge and have it removed. I did a few years ago and told them I would cancel their service if they continued to charge me an unnecessary fee. Since not having my telephone line hooked up to my DVR had zero affect on my programming I could only assume they were using my phone line for instant feedback of my viewing habits.

I know some will feel I am sitting in my home wearing a tin foil hat, but if the technology exists to invade your privacy you can almost say with certainly companies are using that technology to increase their profits. If anyone has any detailed information (even contrary information) regarding this I would like to receive it. Okay, where is that tin foil hat? Sometimes I use it for baking and forget to make a new one...

Okay, the poll question. Do you watch Faux Noise? And if you do, why do you watch it? I admit, when I am driving around during lunchtime I sometimes listen to Hannity or Limbaugh's radio programs for a few minutes just to see what their hate-flavor-of-the-day is. It's also interesting to see where all the insane right wing talking points are coming from. Of course, on a through-the-air analog radio no one can monitor whether I am listening to them or not.

4. I have the Faux News channel locked.
It's inconvenient when I accidentally land on the channel while channel surfing; but it's worth it.

2. I don't watch Fox.
But then, I don't watch anything, so I'm not sure if I count. We have satellite. My wife maybe watches 10 hours a month. I watched a couple hours so far this year.

13. Nope. Still don't, really, except that I gather Obama made some reference
to her or it in a joke or something.

As a cultural dropout of long standing, I'm pretty much used to having TV references go over my head. Hell, as I was saying the other day, I don't even know what this American Idol hoopla is all about.

Is Bonanza still on?

7. My aunt's pastor tells the congregation to watch nothing BUT Fox News...
Saying that they are the only news organization that tells the truth.

It sickens me.

8. sure - I flip on inSanity or Bill-O or Beck every once in a while
just to see the latest whine.

I will also put on the pigboy or neill boob while driving to listen to their drivel. I particularly like their listeners that call in.

9. I have Fux blocked.
People in our house never tuned in to that channel, however, my BIL turned it on the last time he visited from out-of-town and we've had it blocked since then. I rarely watch news of any kind anymore. More accurate and up-to-date information is available online anyway.

12. I do not and will not watch Fox News. I don't watch the news on any
of the major networks because too often they sensationalize the news and try to play on emotions. I prefer my news to be gathered from facts, not opinions. I like to hear both sides of an argument.

14. For us dish folks I think it works like this
If you have a dish it may or may not be plugged into a phone line. If you want to watch pay-for-view movies then you have to be connected to a phone line and they may have the ability to monitor your viewing choices. However if you don't do the pay-for-view thing and don't have a phone line hooked up about all they can do is rely on your subscription choices. So even though we have all FOX channels blocked out from our customized view list we are still paying for it every month and as far as Direct TV knows we watch all the time.

23. I am with you, and here is what I have found
when we stay at a hotel, the breakfast area is almost always tuned to Fox, so I inquired. The nice little old ladies (it is almost always some sweeet grandma, making a few extra bucks to supplement her SS, I'm guessing here) they say that management tells them that the TV has to be set to a "news" only channel. So I ask why is it set to FOX? (without going into to much of a diatribe about Fox not being "news" in any way shape or form, and not wanting to disturb the sweet old grandmas).

Usually they will change it to CNN or the Weather Channel, I guess those are approved. I ask for the Weather CHannel~rather watch stuff about typhoons and such than to listen to Fox or CNN (I'll watch the latter if it's Anderson Cooper).

So you just need to speak up. Much to my husband's chagrin, I speak up every time.

25. I've been very successful in getting Faux turned OFF.
I went to my bank where they had Faux on in their lobbies. I complained and it was switched to a sports channel. If I go to a restaurant or other public place and see Faux on I write a commentary on my receipt saying I will not return if Faux is on their televisions. I also tell the waitress AFTER I have eaten because it's not a good idea to complain before getting your meal. There's no telling what they would do to it if they are true right wingers and thought you were a liberal.

I was in a mall and saw a chain bank with Faux on in their lobby and I complained. They had preaddressed, paid comment cards and I grabbed about fifty of them and filled them all out and sent them in. Whenever I go by that bank it never has Faux on anymore.

There ARE things you can do. Speak Out! No one should be subjected to the negativity, evil, distortions, racism and lies spewing from Faux Noise.

24. I don't watch any tv news, commentary, or talk shows.
The only radio news I ever hear is NPR, because that's what my alarm is tuned into on work days.

I read newspapers and the internet for news.

get stuff from Netflix and the library to watch, and we read and listen to music more than we did a mere two years ago.
