http://thedesperateblogger.com/2010/08/breitbart-releases-bill-cosby-death-tape/Is he or isn’t he? We now have our answer.
And once again, “virtual news” has scooped traditional news outlets.
Andrew Breitbart’s Breitbart.com has published an exclusive video showing the final moments of the life of renowned comedian, author, and actor Bill Cosby.
The video, officially provided by an anonymous source, is believed to be the work of documentary filmmaker James O’Keefe, best known for his ‘ACORN’ series and his Watergate-era urban inner-city wardrobe. The video purportedly shows a gravely ill Cosby surrounded by friends and family suddenly sitting up in bed, raising both arms, looking up at the sky with widened eyes, and uttering the words, “What’s a cubit?” before collapsing lifelessly back into bed.
Meegan Toomey, Associate Professor of Modern Media at Pueblo State University, analyzed the video and concluded it is most likely O’Keefe’s work. “Every director employs certain devices in ways that become their trademark,” she explained. “In this instance, the fact that the person purported to be Mr. Cosby is wearing mirrored sunglasses, a mink coat, and an orange floppy hat would strongly indicate that James O’Keefe at least had a hand in its creation.”
Fox News has apparently confirmed the story, which they ran a short time after it first appeared on the web. The cable giant has also announced that it will run a prime time special this evening, sponsored by Goldline International and hosted by Glenn Beck, which will look back over Mr. Cosby’s life, career, and ties to Nazi-ism and possible Communist conspiracies to control the government of the United States.
News Corp. spokesman Weir Dippschitz, responding to reports that Cosby is, in fact, still alive, including video from last night’s broadcast of CNN’s ‘Larry King Live’ where Mr. Cosby personally called into the show to refute rumors of his death, told reporters, “We stand by the journalistic integrity of Mr. Breitbart and his organization and the fair and balanced method of reporting that is our hallmark.”
When asked, in light of the recent Shirley Sherrod scandal, if Fox news had in any way reviewed or strengthened its procedures for checking sources and confirming facts prior to reporting a story, Dippschitz said, “Huh? Confirm what?”
As for the original report on Breitbart.com, Mr. Breitbart personally penned a heartfelt eulogy in which he described Mr. Cosby as, “a groundbreaker, a pioneer, and an invaluable national treasure who will be sorely missed… thanks to Mr. Cosby, generations of Colored boys and girls all over America have had the opportunity to draw from what I believe should be his lasting legacy — that any of them who works hard and obeys authority can achieve the American Dream — that they too may gain untold riches and fame entertaining white folks by appearing on television and pretending to be a doctor, a lawyer, or maybe even a spy. He was one of the finest Negroes of our lifetime.”
In a related story, speculation continues to mount (particularly in Conservative circles) as to the scope and magnitude of Mr. Breitbart’s long overdue apology to former Department of Agriculture official Shirley Sherrod. According to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, “(W)hen you look at his beautiful words in memory of the late Bill Cosby which he had to prepare under a journalist’s deadline, and you consider the fact that weeks later he’s still working on that apology, it would take someone with huge ‘cojones’ to refudiate that it won’t be sincere and beautiful.”
