I am not one of those people.

It is a matter of human rights and common decency. There is not one shred of "less" to any person. Shame on anyone who can't accept that.

Shame on anyone who would espouse holding back millions of people for some small (or large) political gain. Gains at the cost of harm, or even diminution, to so much as one person is no gain at all.

I hear from some how struggles take time. That the need for patience is paramount right now.

Really? How long is long enough? How quiet must they stand? For whom are we waiting? What else needs to be ready? Shall we wait until the bigots say its okay? For the homophobes to change? Is homophobia "curable"?

Is climbing to victory on the backs of gay people acceptable to anyone?

It is appalling that we are having to have these kinds of discussions.

There is, quite simply, no credible, honest, humane reason for the lack of gay equality.

NONE.

1. Worse still are the so-called Christians who judge...
Jesus gave specific instructions on how to treat people, and bashing gays isn't it.

2. Oh, JuniperLea...
You're obviously not reading the same babble as they are. Right there it says go forth and beat you up some gay folk. It comes right before, 'but don't let anyone tell you how to live your life'.

Desperate measures

July 29th, 2010

William Horning

bill@constitutionalsoulutions.org

Liberals, Democrats and Socialists of all types are now resorting to using smear attacks and taking every possible desperate measure to derail the progress Americans have been making in the past year to restore our Constitutional Republic.

First, they are attacking the Tea Party Movement. This is a serious issue. They know they have to beat down these patriotic groups to avoid disaster at the polls this fall. How are they doing that?

They are using their "nuclear weapon" - calling the Tea Party a "racist movement." Nothing could be further from the truth. Of course, Democrats have stooped to this level before when they used the "nuclear bomb" daisy ad against Republican Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater in 1964.

I have been to a number of tea party events, and have seen nothing that could be called racist. Of course, socialists don’t need evidence, they just need emotion. So what if some signs showed Obama as the Joker or comparing him to Hitler. Bush was shown in the same unflattering light. Do we not still have free speech?

I have lived in both the North and the South and have seen both viewpoints. Having taught and coached in public schools with a substantial black enrollment, all the students were "my kids" whether in history class or on the basketball court. I could care less what color they were.

Today, we all need to be Americans, and as black Tea Party activist Lloyd Marcus says, an "unhyphenated American."

The term, African-American, divides us when we need to unite against the real enemy, those that support a one world order. The only racism I see today is coming from the left; groups like Acorn, the New Black Panther Party, the NAACP, and the Democratic Party leadership.

Second, they are passing the most draconian and game changing bills in the history of our country, the most recent being the 2300 page Financial Reform Bill. Of course, your congressman probably did not read it.

Here we are giving the private Federal Reserve and the big Money Center banks even greater control over our total financial lives, when they are the ones that got our country into financial trouble in the first place. Corruption has been rewarded again.

Third, they are stacking most of the negative repercussions of the extremist legislation they have passed into the outer years – 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, with most of the major problems hitting after their hoped for re-election of President Obama in 2012.

Trouble does start in 2011 as the Bush tax cuts expire and the lowest tax bracket goes up 50 percent. I am sure that will help the economic recovery.

Fourth, they are pushing hard for changes in our culture and the way different organizations within our government operate.

The changes they want to make, are the type of changes that in the past, if you had proposed them, you would be carted off to a mental institution. They want open gays in the military in spite of military leadership being almost unanimously opposed to the idea.

According to a recent report by Cliff Kincaid, the Gay & Lesbian Leadership institute says Obama has already appointed a record number of openly LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) individuals. They will work to have the federal government promote their agenda.

If you think their agenda doesn’t matter, how would you like gay males to be blood donors for your local blood bank? To date, this has been banned, but the homosexual community is currently demanding this be allowed, and there are meetings going on this week on the issue. Hopefully, the ban will stand.

As Americans, we need to make sure these desperate measures are seen by the public for what they are – desperate, and not allow these attacks to throw our march back to the constitution off course or scare aware our friends and neighbors from becoming involved.

That is what they want. Liberals must be voted out in November 2010, and of course, Obama must not be re-elected in 2012. Get busy and spread the word. Times-a-wasting

Amazing... ugh.

I mean, in my life, they do, just no more silently than anyone else, no different anything than anyone else....

Now, when that is just a normal part of everyone's life......well, then you got something.

20. Well I'm one of the "unreccers" but you're wrong in calling me a homophobe
I seem to recall a similar OP by you a couple of weeks ago. Don't mean to be insulting, but you start your post like a Fox news story, "Some people would be happy if The Gays would just stand silently by and try to blend in." Who is this "some people"? There's no context, no references, no links, not even a recent anecdote.

"Shame on anyone who would espouse holding back millions of people for some small (or large) political gain". Again...who said this? What are you reacting to? Someone on DU? or are you having an imaginary conversation with a collective enemy?

I've probably pissed everyone off for saying this, but it doesn't make me homophobic. It just means that I am unreccing what I perceive as a repeat flamebait post.

21. So between the last post that bugged you and this one
did your community finally drop the bigotry and yield our inherent human rights? If not, then what is it exactly you are whining about? Being reminded that the straights are the entire reason for the oppression of your neighbors bothers you? It should.
Those of us with open eyes know exactly what the OP is talking about, for it is constant, and your own post is part and parcel of that constantly repeated lecturing.

24. I think the OP
is more of a 'if the shoe fits' type of post. If the OP isn't speaking about you don't worry about it. Besides I think it is against the rules to call out DUers who may have said something along those lines.

33. Right, I see what you're saying
I sometimes homogenize the entire DU community as pro civil (read: gay) rights. Apparently many in the DU/GLBT community see that is not the case. I am sorry for intruding on the thread. What I actually was responding to was feeling that I was being called out on being a homophobe for "unreccing" the OP. That is not why I unrecced.

WAIT until AFTER the elections (primary, secondary, school crossing guard for Orleans Parish)...
WAIT until we have a majority in the Senate and the House...
WAIT until we have a Democratic persident...

Well, we waited SO FUCKING LONG we now have a DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT AND CONTROL OF CONGRESS...so why do we STILL have to wait before we can be treated as EQUALS!!!

Is there a discussion going on here? Because you do not seem able to brook any disagreement. The word discuss is right next to the word disdain in my Oxford desk dictionary, but I am pretty sure they don't meant the same thing.

Who are you trying to convince?

Do you think it helps to build the Progressive Coalition to call other members of the Progressive Coalition homophobes?

I am sure with your high regard for the truth that you don't care if it helps the Progressive Coalition or not, you are gonna call them as you see them.

However, presumably your OP was written with the purpose of advancing the cause of gay equality. In order to advance that cause you need a bigger coalition than the one we currently have.

31. *claps*
Throughout history, people have had to do the right thing, fight, and drag the rest of the people who don't want to grow up kicking and screaming toward the future.

I like a quote I once saw regarding this:

"Conservatives fight against what is inevitable and good."

Hint: Those of you who oppose equal rights, for any reason, can explain why we're wasting time on this issue instead of things like environmental or financial reform...you know, things that actually kill people?
