3. It wouldn't be bipartisan to continue such an investigation..
An investigation into liberal Democrats who are accused of wrongdoing however is about as bipartisan as it's possible to get, both Republicans and Democrats strongly support such investigations.

4. It's still on track. Sen. Coburn just turned over a whole
bunch of emails between him and Ensign about what happened. If I remember right, it's all going to a grand jury.

5. Stay Tuned...It Should Get Interesting...
Federal prosecutors are sniffing around this one. Last week, right before they adjourned, the Senate quietly passed a bill to permit investigators to talk with Ensign's staff (Senate rules prevent such contact without a vote). The investigation is moving along and I suspect it'll gain momentum...and it might be at a very unfortunate time. I'd love to see an indictment come down in October...even though Ensign isn't up for re-election this year, it sure would make things interesting.

From all aspects, Ensign is in deep shit and has done all he can to delay...meanwhile the Feds are getting closer. Of course the corporate media prefers to go after Democrats, the dirt that is sure to roll out of any trial could provide for much entertainment in the year or so ahead.
