But many of us like to think that such captions capture the essence of the person, that they are more true than true. Allowing the person to say what he or she really mighty without the filter of self consciousness.

Ann did not make the statement in the OP, but the joke is it sounds exactly like her but goes just a bit too far. The joke? The statement for the rest of us is out--rageous, but for Ann it probably just gos a little too far. Probably.
