White House press secretary Robert Gibbs acknowledged on Tuesday that President Obama's presence in some districts would hurt Democratic candidates in the midterm elections.
And, joking with reporters, Gibbs said Obama obviously won't be seen on the ground in any of those places.
"We're not going to go to places where people think it would be unhelpful for us to go," Gibbs said. "That would be crazy."
Gibbs, who came under fire from Democrats last month for saying that Republicans have a chance to retake the House, said Obama will help Democrats in other ways when needed, including fundraising and mail pieces.
"We'll help people where we think we can help the most," Gibbs said.
Obama has spent considerable time in campaign mode in recent weeks, expanding his fundraising schedule significantly.
