A former U.S. Capitol Police officer admitted Wednesday that he distributed child pornography using online file-sharing services.
Dennis Bell, 55, of Woodbridge, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Alexandria. He was a police sergeant when he was arrested in April.
Bell admitted to using a peer-to-peer network to distribute files containing child pornography. He saved child pornography on his computer and on a thumb drive and liked viewing children of “all age ranges,” according to his plea agreement.
Bell originally told police that he searched for child pornography to see how accessible it was because he had children.
He will be sentenced Oct. 22 and could face up to 20 years in prison.

A federal narcotics agent was nabbed Tuesday for having a stash of child porn on a personal laptop he used for work, law enforcement sources said.
Special Agent Darren Argento, a 14-year veteran at the Drug Enforcement Administration, had hidden on the computer raunchy images and videos of girls between the ages of 7 and 14, the sources said.
Argento, of Huntington, L.I., had no idea he was going to be collared when DEA officials summoned him to a federal office in lower Manhattan Tuesday, the sources said.
He was charged with possessing child pornography and distributing it.
The arrest followed an investigation by the DEA's internal affairs arm, the Office of Professional Responsibility, along with the inspector general of the Justice Department.
It was not clear how the agencies got wind of the disgusting secrets saved on Argento's hard drive.
Argento could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
